Monstro in Pinocchio.
I had to be removed from the theater.
Years later at yet another revival of Pinocchio, I was there with a kid I was baby-sitting. He had to be removed during the same scene, Truth be told, I was quite happy to take him to the lobby and sit it out until we heard that the scene was over.
Must be genetic. My older sister was terrorized by the Flying Monkeys in OZ. She still won't watch it and avoids animated films to boot.

Traumatized, I don't think so, but I could NEVER EVER EVER get through the end of All Dogs go to Heaven without crying. Same with Benji when the little girl's crying after her dad says they can't keep him. Same with Snow White when she's in the glass coffin.

The Neverending Story. There were two different kinds of ‘traumatizing’ in that movie.
The emotionally gut-wrenching kind, with the scene of Atreyu’s horse, Artax, drowning to death in the Swamps of Sadness (HOW did that make it into a kid’s movie?). I don’t think any scene has ever upset me more.
And the kind to give you nightmares (at the time) with the giant wolf, Gmork. I remember when he was first shown, as lightning illuminated him, was quite freaky. Also, there was quite a bit of blood in his death scene.
In the movie Willow, the scene where everyone was turned into pigs was rather freaky, but not the same level of disturbing as the troll scene (which I thought was super gross at the time).
I do vaguely recall All Dogs Go to Heaven and feeling sad when watching – though I can’t really remember any of that movie now.

Stuff from the 80s tend to be strong contenders for that. Filmmakers of family entertainment had a very simple philosophy for the tone: just throw you headfirst into a new world, shouting, "HEY! SURVIVE THIS!"

Watching one of the "Benji" films last Winter.
*spoilers*
Benji is lost in the Wilderness and makes friends with some baby Wildcats. One of them gets carried away by a Hawk. Holy hell. I was bummed out. Potent stuff.
Watched another film I have in the "Hero Dogs" set. (can't remember the name) about a Teenage girl and young Hispanic guy who get lost on a Mountain. Of course they get hurt. With a nice Canine no less.
*spoilers* of course the Dog gets hurt and dies. Immediately souring the film for me. This was supposed to be an early 2000's kids film.

I think I vaguely recall seeing that Benji movie with the wildcats, but had forgotten about one of them getting carried away by a hawk (though something similar happened with a kitten in a book I was reading some time ago). Was that also the movie where Benji's constantly being pursued/menaced by a wolf, and in the end he tricks it into running over the edge of a cliff and you hear it howling as it plummets to its death? I hate animal cruelty/deaths in *any* movies, but it's especially messed up when it's in kids films. If there are any animals hurt or killed in a movie, it immediately sours the movie for me too.

Yes! That was the one. The Wolf is hunting him but seeing him plummet down isn't a pleasing moment. (Hell we know Benji will be ok.)
Aside from those two instances it was a fantastic film without hardly any dialogue. I get that it's nature. But jeez. I could picture how sad it might make a kid watching it if 32 year old me is bummed.

I wouldn't say that it traumatized me, but some scenes in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory freaked me out as a kid. I thought the whole set design/aesthetic was just creepy. I don't know how the boat ride scene made it into a kids movie.
I can't really explain why, but I guess that I just didn't buy into the whole concept of the factory being a cool fun place. I've watched many horror movies over the years, it's probably my favorite genre, but nothing has ever made the impression on me that this movie did when I was a small kid.

Yeah, as much as I didn’t want the wolf to hurt/eat Benji or the wildcats, I did feel somewhat sorry for him when he howled as he plummeted to his death.

Yes, movies like Benji and The Adventures of Milo and Otis were ones I watched repeatedly when I was real young (it was unfortunate when I discovered the controversy surrounding the latter film). Quite a few kids films back then seemed to be almost equal parts enjoyable and upsetting.

I always thought the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would make a decent horror/slasher-type film. It practically writes itself. A bunch of teens (probably age them up from kids to allow for the ‘slasher’ vibe) wandering into a creepy factory which at first appears to be a wondrous place, but soon turns nasty as they’re systematically offed in bizarre and gruesome ways by some weirdo.

Not a movie, but a childrens TV-show that was in my country named: Mummidalen or the original title The Moomin's that I remember very well from my childhood in the early 90s. And as most kids growing up back then, the chilling entrance of the scary looking creature/figure The Groke (or as in Norway she went under the name of: Hufsa) was one of the most infamous incidents on TV for kids:

Not necessarily traumatized, but the talking trees and Flying Monkeys from "The Wizard of Oz" still freak me out to this day. Not a movie, but the part in "Peter and the Wolf" where they can hear the Duck quacking in the Wolf's stomach kept me awake for a few days.

Found the scene with Benji tricking the wolf into jumping off the cliff to its death. I think the video pretty much sums up Benji in this instance.

Yeah... It sucks about the Wolf. But that's nature. I haven't watched the Dog movie packs since then. But I probably will one day. Just haven't been in the mood. I judt Watched several "Family appropriate" Hallmark and Adventure film packs not too long ago.
