Do you prefer these versions or the George Lucas Special Editions?

Despecialized editions all the way. I'm sure when he did it, that it sounded like a good idea, but it made something that was IMHO pretty timeless, and put in some CGI that just made the works look dated pretty quickly. JMHO.

I enjoy that someone made them available. However, in my head, they exist in their own continuity. Whenever I marathon all the films, I watch the new versions. When I do a nostalgic OT re-watch, I watch de-specialized....

I've never seen the despecialized editions, seen youtube videos about the history, sources etc. but are they completely stripped of the updates George did or did they keep certain aspects?

The are the basically fan recreations of the original versions of the films as released in 1977, 1980, and 1983. They were made because the original versions have not been released in a current format since 2006 (and those were just re-issues of the 1993 laserdiscs). I'm glad they exist. They're the best option for seeing the OG trilogy for those who want to.

In the original cut, he's the only one that shot.

I can't watch the Special Editions anymore (only saw them a couple of times and there is just no comparison). I'm a person who has the 1990 VHS tapes and then for a while relied on the crap Laserdisc master GOUT DVD, so the version I grew up on never got corrupted. Harmy is pretty much the savior of the real Original Trilogy and the only version I ever watch now. I'm an admitted purist.
