If Daniel Craig decides not to return to the Bond franchise, a reboot is inevitable.
I thought an interesting idea on rebooting Bond would be to return to the roots of the franchise, during the Cold War time period. Spectre felt watered down and more of the same when it came to a spy movie. Part of this being that there are so many spy movies set in the modern era (Mission Impossible, Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher). To freshen up the franchise, why not grab a new Bond actor and return to time period that made Bond famous? but this time with the use of advanced CGI and movie filming techniques. Let me know your thoughts...

I'd be down, especially if they set them in the 50s when the original novels were set....

Sounds good to me. As long as they make Bond fun again. None of this dark, gritty, humorless, gadgetless Bond.

I don't think the series needs a reboot. You don't even need to go back to The Cold War. We're about to start a new one with Russia.

misstiqueThere is still some humor in there even though the movies in general have a more serious feel to them. but personally i prefer more serious Bond movies as the Craig era produced some of the best Bond movies as outside of Quantum of Solace (which i mildly like) they are all amongst my favorite movies in general. but assuming Craig does not come back... i would not mind if they altered things a bit with it's general tone/style but i definitely don't want things to drift too far away from the current style. as for gadgets... i would not mind to see some in there but i don't want any of that over-the-top stuff (like we seen in Brosnan era pretty much) and would prefer to keep things a bit more realistic-ish. but given the general $$$ the Craig era has done i can't see them making too much of a shift in the style of the Craig era once someone else takes over.

Why not go back to the start and remake the movies? Whether you stay closer to the books or not is debatable - IIRC Bond doesn't fire a single shot in Casino Royale. Many of the book plots aren't very cinematic.

The other question is what makes Bond Bond? The style, the car, the gadgets, the women. They went P.C. a bit with the women (for good reason, mostly). So do you need to keep any or all of these aspects when rebooting? Otherwise, how is it different from Bourne?

Remember to make it fun this time. And shorter. Shorter is good. Nolanitus is a serious condition, but with a steady course of editing, it can be successfully treated.

A trip back to the fifties could be good. Or just a random adventure in another time period. How about doing something during WWII?
I think anything to kill the "00 agents need to be replaced with computers" subplot that keeps popping up would be nice.
