In your opinion, which is the best band in their prime? IE, journey with Steve Perry, or Queen with Freddie, just to name a few.

I'm a fan of all of them. I'd rank them:
Led Zeppelin The Rolling Stones Pink Floyd Queen The Doors The Beatles Journey

I don't like any of them, but that's not why I'm commenting. When have Journey ever belonged in that kind of higher echelon company? Seems a very arbitrary addition to a bunch of rock behemoths.

I chose journey based on Steve Perrys vocals and stage presence. Sioce you don't like any of them, who would you suggest?

Well, since "blues rock" is the only common denominator I can find between all of those (well, maybe except for Journey), I'll pick 'The Rolling Stones'.

maybe you should have named the thread "Best Mainstream Band."
plenty of great bands out there that did not gain mainstream attention.

I love Journey ... but they are not up on the level with those other bands.

The Beatles get my vote.
I always say The Beatles are the greatest band of all time, even though my personal favorite is Fleetwood Mac.

I'll join The Who bandwagon ("The Whowagon"). Any list of the top bassist would have Entwistle at on near the top. Any list of the top drummers would have Moon at or near the top. Townsend was a top flight guitarist and Daltry was one of the best frontmen. Their music went downhill after Moon died, but that's would be expected. And they never had that great run of albums like the Beatles of the Stones had. But they were better musicians and as creative as either band.

Other - The Smiths, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Who, The Kinks, Small Faces...many others I personally would pick above the listed ones.
Of those listed probably choose The Beatles
Have no idea what Journey are doing in there.
