Which they actually pulled off pretty well in the first film. Enough to disarm everyone and make us look forward to the second film. Then the second film begins and they promptly stop using ANY dialogue from the book, and that's before things got truly bad. I agree, BUT, the action sequences of them falling through the caves turned me off so bad. The first film was ok, but that alone damn near ruined it for me.

I agree, BUT, the action sequences of them falling through the caves turned me off so bad. The first film was ok, but that alone damn near ruined it for me. I'm more "eh" when it comes to the cartoony moments in the first film, since they're downright subdued compared to what was to come. My main problem with the An Unexpected Journey is how it comes off as a malicious pack of lies in retrospect. I'm all but convinced it was intentional.
