It's rare to find a movie above 2 stars. Fact. Unless it's a tv series , don't bother. That said ,they do have some decent original productions. Notably, Bloodline ,Luke Cage ,Marco Polo and Daredevil

Pretty much, but if you dig deep enough, you'll find a few gems. I used to like their movie line-up. Now, it's mostly crap.

On streaming you mean? Yeah, there's a ton of crap on there, and far too few newer films that I want to see (which at this point is primarily big budget genre films). I probably wouldn't keep Netflix at this point if I only had streaming, especially as lately I've been more into watching TV shows that I'm simply DVRing.

I've been enjoying the hell out of the Japanese "Pinky Violence" (Stray Cat Rock and Female Prisoner 701 franchises) and Italian "Euro-Crime" flicks from the 1970s available on Amazon Prime.

I did watch some good movies on there this month that I'd never seen:
Sunset Blvd Contact Quiz Show Nightcrawler The African Queen The Third Man
But yeah, most of the good movies are available on DVD only. Streaming selection is good for TV shows, but pretty limited for movies, as you said.

Why yes, I noticed it every single day for about six years. It's basically the "USA Up All Night" of streaming services, brah.

It seems Hulu has better movies, at least in my opinion.

Aside from the occasional find, I agree, good TV and original content though. Amazon Prime has some overall better movies, plus you can watch a whole lot more a la carte.

Notably, Bloodline ,Luke Cage ,Marco Polo and Daredevil Bear in mind that the star rating you see is a prediction of what you will rate it. It's not a reflection of what the community has rated it. You have to look closer for that. Otherwise, I agree with you. I found an article a few months ago (from about a year or two ago) saying that Netflix's selection has dwindled significantly over the last four years. You can probably find it if you are interested. Part of the problem is that streaming rights costs a lot of money. It's basically not economically feasible to offer a large collection of titles. (You can find articles on that too.) That's why if we all want the ability to watch any movie we want when we want, we should continue to buy and rent physical media.

Interesting. Netflix is by no means strapped for cash I imagine but they are likely pouring their money into producing all the original programs they are pumping out.

Just saw the list of new Netflix movies for March, and it sucked. There's like 1 or 2 movies on the list that I haven't seen and would like to see. You'd think they could offer more on a monthly basis.

Netflix seems to focus more and more on series, rather than movies. It's probably a better lure for new viewers. And there's a lot of competition for streaming, increasing all the time.
They seem to drop movies faster than series too. New movies don't seem to last long, the few that they offer anyway.

And thinking about series, the whole "binge watch" phenomenon has driven a great deal of traffic to Netflix, and aside from a very few movie franchises just doesn't work with movies like it does with something like years of Doctor Who reruns for instance.

Good point.
Netflix just added the whole Star Trek catalogue here in Belgium, so I ended up binge watching for a couple of weeks. There's no way I'ld do that with movies. Not that there are a lot of movie series on Netflix to begin with.
Star Wars, sure, but that's about it over here.
