I remember watching the first two episodes on the color TV set in the living room. The vibrant colors is what stood out to my 6 year old eyes. On my 7th birthday in April I was blowing out the candles on my cake wearing my Batman shirt and cape.

It was really corny and stupid and WE ALL LOVED IT!
I had to go watch that episode just because of Sherry Jackson. She later popped up in all my favorite shows at the time: Star Trek, Lost in Space, etc.
Julie Newmar did a Columbo and was the perfect pick for "Stupefyin Jones" in the Lil' Abner movie.
You bet I spotted her.

So i have watched 5 episodes of the show. And its good but personally i don`t really feel like i am watching Batman its more like watching a man acting like he is Batman but he not Batman he is just a man in a batman costume. I am sure people will disagree with me but that is my personal opinion.
Overall i based on those 5 episodes i would give the show a 7\10.
But one thing i don`t like is those stupid one liners from Robin. And i agree with the above poster that its pretty stupid and corny but still its entertaining enough to make me want to keep watching it.

Well, depends on what you mean by “Batman.” If y’go in expecting a dark, dramatic Batman, then no, West’s character is nothing like Bale’s or even like Keaton’s (though the Burton/Keaton movies and the West show have many other elements in common, especially plotting). As there’s not really a Platonic Batman, I suppose I don’t really understand the criticism—maybe you can explain some more? The whole show is silly and goofy and corny, including the one-liners, and that’s the point. But the show is also brilliantly plotted, colorful, surrealist, and joyfully entertaining. Just plain old-fashioned fun.

Loved the episodes with the 'one-off' villains, especially: Roddy McDowall's Bookworm, Liberace's Chandel/Harry, David Wayne's Mad Hatter (okay, he did two, but should have done a few more). Of the rep company villains, Frank Gorshin's Riddler was the bomb; Gorshin actually played it for real evil, and was the only one of the lot who gave you the impression he might actually be capable of killing the Duo. The wonderfully innovative use of color was a real plus, making the show a treat for the eyes even now. It's just a shame that Batman was such a specific product of a specific time that there would be no chance of doing anything like it nowadays.

IMO, the Joker was the best villain. Worst ones were most of the ones in season 3.

Yes those but i assume those are 60s slang. Perhaps some were 60s slang, but others had earlier origins. If I remember correctly most were just silly rifts on objects or what was happening in the scene at the time. They made no more sense then than they do now. Some were probably purposefully dumb.

I never got to see the series until the late 80s or early 90s when some station finally ran them daily (same Bat Time, same Bat channel)-so I only had the movie to go by before that (and the two late 70s comedy roast shows which had West, Ward, and various others in a more overtly comical version--but as a kid that was better than nothing). There was also a commercial in which Batgirl lets Batman and Robin be blown up by a bomb--that was traumatic and confusing as a kid. Perhaps Batman came too late-but there were later costumed hero shows so I think if they had been more serious-minded and not spoofing it could have lasted longer (but with a smaller audience). William Dozier hated superheroes from what I read, he liked the Green Hornet better--but it lacked the villains and just wasn't as interesting a concept. Batman is referenced a couple of times in the Harry Palmer film series--in FUNERAL IN BERLIN Michael Caine says he has his portable Batman suit (the military type is assumed) but in BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN there are pictures of Batman and Robin on his office wall. Batman also shows up in an Italian crime film--decorating the inside of a nightclub--and they made a few superhero costumed films as well.
On the subject of how it is perceived now--especially with the comical elements--despite that-I think the casting of the characters was not handled in an absurd fashion. West was not a very interesting Bruce Wayne but his voice was perfect for Batman and the costume was so concealing--he was a MUCH better choice than Lyle Wagoner would have been.
Caesar Romero also deserves much more credit for his performance as the Joker--he is much closer to the comics version of the 50s and 60s than Nicholson or Ledger. As I discussed in another forum here, West was 6' 2 something, Romero the same, yet Nicholson and Keaton are under 6 feet.
The casting became more "beta" and further away from the superheroic caricature than the 60s show was.

I’ve been enjoying watching Batman clips on YouTube. The first season when the actors played their roles very straight was fantastic. I especially like the first Joker episodes.

Recently they started showing Batman episodes on the Independent Film Channel early on Saturday mornings. I hadn't watched the show for over fifty years.
I realized that in the 1960s perhaps I took it a bit more seriously than intended. It seems much funnier to me now. And outside the show, the only villain actor I knew back then was Vincent Price/Egghead (I was just a kid).
Favorite villain - Julie Newmar/Catwoman. There was just something about that shiny, skin-tight catsuit.
Edit: I just remembered one morning recently I started giggling every time Chief O'Hara said something because he's such an awfully blatant stereotype.
