Any fans? I have a lot of links, etc., but I'd like to wait for a quorum first.
I think he's one of the great directors, but also a VERY interesting person, and hope more interviews, video, audio come out in the future.
If you can only watch one movie, check out "A Woman Under The Influence"

Yeah, very sad... His autobiography (with Ray Carney) is on pdf (online e-book)..
They've been showing his movies on TCM and other channels.. Pretty easy to find.

The Killing of a Chinese Bookie is a favourite of mine. Another director I don't "get." I thought this was awful.

Another director I don't "get." I thought this was awful. I like his style. I have seen every Cassavetes' movies, he's one of my favorites, but that was the one I didn't like.. It's muddled. But if you want more accessible movies, check out "A Child Is Waiting" and "Too Late Blues" (I'm a musician, and that is the best in the genre, Bobby Darin is pretty good in it too)..
"A Woman Under The Influence" is my favorite.

I'm about halfway through his filmography and it's dawning on me that I don't really like his directing style. It's especially prevelent in Husbands. One of these assholes (I already forgot which) is hitting on this woman and laughing/breaking character which in turn makes the woman laugh back, even though she's supposed to be annoyed and offended (she even says three seconds later "this isn't funny"). It's all part of this "let the actors riff, it's more *real*" thing, but watching actors aimlessly improv and fumble their way through scenes just reminds me that I'm watching a movie.
A Woman Under the Influence rocks, though.
