What a great show! So many bits have become classics. The greatly under-appreciated Don Adams, the other great cast and chemistry! The great comedy genius of Mel Brooks and Buck Henry. So much inspiration for later comedies both in TV and movies. The fact that it is a time capsule for a specific era in history....What's your favorite bit? Mine was always the "Cone of Silence", ("What?"...."What?"), the same bit every time, yet it always cracked me up!

One of the greatest shows of all time. Countless classic bits. One of my favorites was "the old ....trick" they got more and more obscure every time. And sometimes he would say "I just fell for that one last week".

Very witty and well acted show. Don't really have a favorite bit as I liked them all. Agent 99 was my first TV crush.

Hymie...yes I loved his episodes! Also enjoyed agent 13 disguised and hiding in trash cans, mail boxes, and vending machines. Also Bernie Kopell as Siegfried, this was his funniest role. Much funnier than the doctor on the Love Boat, which most people remember him. Siegfried is a Mel Brooks character which could find a home in any Mel Brooks movie! He was great as Smart's recurring nemesis!

I saw an episode just a couple hours ago in which Max works with an Israeli counterpart. It was entitled "The Man from YENTA" (Your Espionage Network and Training Academy). They work to protect Prince Abou Ben Boobie who is friendly to Israel. 99 looks great as a harem girl.

Comedian and comedy writer Bill Dana has died at the age of 92. According to this article from the Hollywood Reporter, Dana contrived the trademark "Would You Believe?" line of jokes that Don Adams employed as a standup and on the TV series Get Smart. The Reporter also informs us that one of Dana’s older brothers, Irving, went on to compose the theme song for Get Smart. Bill Dana is most well known for creating the character Jose Jimenez for the Steve Allen Show. Bill Dana obit

I love the shoe phone. I also love the opening intro, which is one of the best of the 1960s if you ask me.

Some favorite catch phrases from “Get Smart”
How many of the teen and 20-somethings working retail and wait staff who say "Sorry about that" (which I hear everywhere) know that they are using a catch phrase from a TV show that went off the air going on 50 years ago? The percentage probably approaches zero. “Sorry about that, Chief” is the full catch phrase.
The Cone Of Silence has already been mentioned.
“That’s the second [biggest, smallest, whatever] [dog, gun, whatever] I’ve ever seen!”
“Would you believe this?” “No.” “Oh, then would you believe that?”
“Missed it by THAT much!”
“Zis is KAOS. Ve don’t [blank] here!” Shtarker: “We could bushwhack them.” Siegfried: “Zis is KAOS. Ve don’t bush-vaak here!”
“I told you not to tell me that.” Max: “Don’t tell me that gun is pointed at us.” 99: “The gun is pointed at us.” Max: “I told you not to tell me that.”
And then there are running gags like the Cone of Silence (already mentioned) and the shoe phone, maybe the, first mobile phone, also mentioned above.

Another great thing about this show was the fact that it was not a pure comedy. It was a true action comedy. People often got killed on the show and there were some good action scenes including some very good fight scenes.

Another recurring gag involved Max taking on an enormous KAOS goon, first by calling him "a big ape" or something, then hauling off and punching him across the jaw - with no effect. Undaunted, Max would slug him with all his might in the gut. Again nothing. Another shot at the chin - nothing. Then Max would sheepishly say, "Listen, I hope I wasn't out of line with that big ape remark."
