I like it but I always been a big fan of Vincent Price.
It was very unique at the time but today it's not going to scare or blow away anyone. If you're into campy films I'd recommend it.

Who's seen it? Who loves it? First saw it on TV when my brother and I were little kids, and had nightmares for weeks. Scared the tar out of us!
Still one of my favorites, and some scenes are still scary. Pretty decent, and of course, it has Vincent Price!!

It's one of my favorites. Vincent Price was the man when it comes to horror.

I'm a Vincent Price fan, but wasn't too keen on this film. It's aged badly and felt rather cheesy. I preferred the remake.

I didn't like this one at all. I thought it was too far-fetched and ridiculous.
I like everything! Sup Johan! This post was a waste of time. I rarely waste my time talking about things I don't like, which is why I seem to like everything.

Good campy fun, but it was slightly spoilt because I actually watched the remake before seeing the original.

Sure it's campy, but it has Vincent Price! That makes it fun! I could watch it every day.

Sure it's campy, but it has Vincent Price! That makes it fun! I could watch it every day. I often did as a kid. We had it on VHS and I wore that tape OUT, so I was glad when we discovered eBay and were able to find another copy in 2000. I miss those days. I tried to find one that the artwork matched the one we had, and it's the most common one with the skeleton and Anabelle hanging, but there were others with black and white covers. I remember one and I can't find ANY evidence it ever existed anymore, that on the back it had a B&W picture of Anabel screaming and it said 'Pray they don't ask you to spend the night'. That was so out there to me and it stuck with me, I wish I could find that now, just to prove what I know that it was real and I didn't just imagine it, because my imagination isn't that good.

On another note, am I the only one who ever wished they would've done a prequel showing Watson Pritchard's first night at the house to see what happened to him?

I saw it in 1959. It was a different world than and kids were really scared by it.
When the old caretaker floated past Nora in the dark closet, three hundred kids had to be scraped off the ceiling. It was the greatest jump scare of the 1950's.
In the scene in which Nora sees the image of Price's wife outside the window and the rope snakes in and coils around her feet my young cousin crawled over three kids and landed in my lap. She has a strangle hold around my neck, I'm trying to push her out of the way to see that is happening and the place is in pandemonium.
Thank you, Mr. Castle wherever you are for that lifelong memory.

Not a favorite Price movie for me but I like the stuff between him and Carol Ohmart.
Unfortunately, while Geoffrey Rush was a reasonable stand-in for the remake, I think Famke Janssen was not the right type for the Ohmart role. Need an Annette Benning or Laura Linney to be a closer match.
