Is it even set in China this time? No apparently the films are popular in China. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the ones who help get this film to a billion in the box office.

It's a great haul in China, but it (all things considered) performed pretty poorly in the US. I'm interested in seeing what the future of this franchise is. They have a spinoff film planned next summer, which I'm speculating could be put into question after The Last Knight's performance. I hope it does move forward because it sounds like it has a lot of potential. Haille Steinfeld is supposed to star in the film. She's someone I like and think has a lot of talent. They are also bringing in a new director with Travis Knight taking the helm. His debut film got good reviews, so I'm hoping he can bring new life into the franchise. It's also supposed to be a period film set in the 1980's. All of this makes me very interested in seeing how this film turns out. Plus, with Haille Steinfeld the franchise will go back to it's roots in a way with a young person at the lead. All the Shia LaBeouf Transformers movies increased each time out at the box office. I'm a Wahlberg fan, but each of his Transformer movies have seen a decrease in gross. So maybe Steinfeld will help draw some of those others fans back while attracting new fans.

The Bumblebee spin-off is reportedly supposed to be a smaller-scale film, so that shoul definitely improve the film's chances of being profitable. In any case, I think it's safe to say that Michael Bay is done with the Transformers franchise for real this time.
