I do not see comparisons to "The Twilight Zone". Joe Stefano had his own take on Science Fiction.

I LOVE The Outer Limits--original only, please!
This premiered in the fall of 1963, when I was in the fifth grade, and I never missed an episode. Years later, I bought the two DVD sets and have watched them many, many times. Amazing that I could remember so much detail, more than 50 years later!
My favorite, as a kid, was The Zanti Misfits--about ant-like "prisoners" who are sent to earth as a kind of penal colony. It was scary when I saw it way back when...but now, I can see the strings, and it's almost laughable. Nonetheless, the charm is still very much intact.
Thanks for starting a thread about The Outer Limits! One big reason why I still love the show is the music they use, especially the closing theme. It fascinated me as a kid. I'd actually sit there and wait until the end credits reached the United Artists logo!

I love the 1963-65 original. The first season is the best IMO. One of the best seasons of any TV series I can think of. If they could have had a full three seasons in more or less the same vein as the first I believe the show might have earned a cult following of maybe not quite Star Trek proportions, but huge.

I been watching the first show on DVD. It's alright. The hour long episodes feel lengthy sometimes. And lets be real this is a monster of the week show. Sometimes the show has a point to make but it's not very often.
I'll give the show this: the intro is one of the best ever. It is so damn remember-able. I don't think I'll ever forget it.

Noose Nugget
Sadly the Exec. Producer and creator, Joe Stefano had budget problems with ABC. They tried to modify his scripts and only wanted TOL to be a "bug-eyed monster" show. The script's depths and meanings were forced to be watered down. ABC did not think it would sell to the viewers.
Joe Stefano had scripts that were never put into production, sadly. I still enjoy this series (the original).

I do not see comparisons to "The Twilight Zone". Joe Stefano had his own take on Science Fiction. It's on the Comet channel sometimes. I like the b&w episodes even though they seem a lot longer than Twilight Zone episodes. I don't like the 90s Outer Limits.

Anybody remember the episode with the evil tumble weeds?
One of the episodes that I always find pretty scary is the one that starts with a cleaning woman working in a lab. She sees something stuck in the corner, uses her vacuum hose to pull it out, and when it gets inside the vac, it starts to grow. Pretty soon, it exploded and fills the entire room, just this rolling black and gray cloud of energy! That was the only effect in the entire show, but they somehow pulled it off beautifully.

To me, the score made each episode memorable--it was majestic. The new series lacked that.

The tumbleweeds episode was a second season ep. It featured Eddie Albert and June Havoc. I thought it was awful the first couple of times I watched it but it's grown on me. The script isn't what it should be but it's nicely made. I can't remember the exact title. Something like Echo Of Silence or maybe Noise Of Silence. It Crawled Out Of The Woodwork is the cleaning lady and the energy cloud one. It's one of my all time favorite TOL eps. Like all great things it holds up to revisitings (sic), so it gets better after the first couple of viewings. Excellent acting and interesting if at times overwrought relationships.

I agree withw an earlier comment that the first season was best. I think the production team changed. However, for me the very best episode was in the second season, "Demon With a Glass Hand"...I know that Harlan Ellison and Robert Culp both wished to make this into a feature film. I saw an announcement a couple of years ago that this would finlly occur. I doubt that Robert Culp will be matched, or that it will work as well.

I love the Outer Limits...including the reboot. Another oddball series was Max Headroom. Way ahead (pun intended) of its time...

I was 4-5 years old when the original aired. It scared the shit out of me, but at the same time it was so cool.

I liked the one from the 60's. The newer episodes were okay, but not classic.
