I admitted to my friends that I overrated this film for the full scale Jedi battle and Christopher Lee. If this film didn't have the Stars Wars name attached to it probably would be easily forgotten.
Last films watched: The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936) 9/10 Dr. Strangelove (1964) 10/10 Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) 6/10 Manhunter (1986) 10/10 Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance (2009) 8/10
This movie gets a lot of slack, and man times undeservedly so. This is probably the most hated film in the entire Star Wars franchise.
So, since this is the very first post ever to be made in this forum, why not highlight some of the best things about AotC?
1 - Great world building - introducing new planets and cultures, such as Kamino and Geonosis
2 - Amazing soundtrack by John Williams - JW gives us yet another fantastic OST with memorable themes such as "Across the Stars"
3 - The politics and plot around the Chancellor becomes more intricate
4 - Cool Coruscant chase sequence
5 - The introduction of Jango Fett, the cool bounty hunter, and his son Boba
6 - Cool hand to hand combat between Obi-Wan and Jango
7 - Amazing asteroid chase sequence, with the remarkable seismic charges in action
8 - We see the Jedi in full power for the first time in the Battle of Geonosis
9 - The Battle of Geonosis itself
10 - The Clone Army is established, which marks the beginning of a new era that will affect the entire Galaxy
11 - "You want to go home and rethink your life"
You make some great points. In this "soap opera with spaceships", the "spaceships" part is fine. The "soap opera", well, it just didn't work out too well for me overall. The loss of Shmi was pretty gripping and added to the story, but the budding romance of Anakin and Padme, oh my, that just seemed so unnatural and forced. But it was forced because the ending was already told, and it's hard for a storyteller to build that romance if everybody knows where it must go, even if there's no chemistry between the characters. Iif the soap doesn't lather, it just doesn't.
"But I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now"
It was my favorite of the prequels and no I don't like any of them. Mainly just for camp factor. AotC is a hoot. I like the opening, the games, the factory (or whatever) bit and the laughably wooden romance.
Well, I post on IMDb v2, on the So... thread. Have you heard of it?
