Lite but interesting article.
I've always said that the comic industry, as it stands now, needs a change that is deeper and more beneficial than just cancelling titles and starting them over with new numbers ones. If anything that's just frustrating to consumers.
While the movies are doing gangbusters, the comics themselves have seen much better days. Comics used to sell in the upper hundred thousands (sometimes even low millions). Nowadays if you get one that sells just one hundred thousand its considered a massive hit.
A deeper change where the business model goes hand in hand with creativity, not just business alone, is what will rejuvenate the industry. No one buys comics because they have a great business plan. They buy comics because they like the character, the artwork, and the story.
The trick is figuring out what the change(s) should be. Comic prices would be a good place to start IMO...
