I would like to say Nick Knight, which led to the 90's tv series Forever Knight was one of my favorite movies from the '90s, but I can't, since it first aired in 1989. Soooo, I guess it's one of my favorite TV movies from the 80's.

Top 5:
The Langoliers The Siege at Ruby Ridge A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story The Temptations The Jacksons: An American Dream
Honorable mention:
A Matter of Justice Victim of Love: The Shannon Mohr Story Texas Justice
Perfect Murder, Perfect Town came out in 2000, but it was right on the cusp of the 90s and is an excellent TV Movie about the death of Jonbenet Ramsey.

Stephen King's Rememberance Zenon: Girl from the 21st century No One Could Tell The Jacksons: An American Dream The Dorothy Dandridge Story The Josephine Baker Story Elvis and Me The 60s The 70s Death Of A Cheerleader If Someone Had Known Susie Q Madonna: Lost Innocence
I don't know the name of the movie, but it had Joanna Kearns, the woman from growing pains, playing a wife who had been abused. Another movie I can't remember is the one that had Ricki Lake in it and she also played a abused wife who ended up being murdered by her husband, and her sister ended up taking care of her kids.
Also, there was a movie where a couple had moved into a haunted house where a couple from the 1800s had used to live. I remember in the movie strange things keep happening to the new couple who had moved in where their dog had mysteriously died and the wife's wedding ring was mysteriously taken off. I remember the wife had found a journal of a woman from the 1800s who wrote entries about her seemingly abusive husband. I remember the wife tried to dress up like the ghostly wife from the 1800s who keeps haunting the house, then the ghostly figure of the abusive husband had appeared. It's kinda hard to explain the rest that had followed after. I remember the movie ended with the house being on fire and he ghostly couple had appeared to embrace each other in their arms.

Some of these titles you guys mentioned are actually miniseries, not tv movies. Queen for example was a miniseries.

Basically all those movies based on true stories or crap novels like Danielle Steele. Or those with ridiculous titles like "My Stepson, My Lover". Or something like The Dan Jansen Story, no idea why that was turned into a movie. The sillier, the better.
