What are your favorite Val Lewton (horror) pictures? (You can choose up to three.) Lewton was of course a famed producer best known for a series of horror pictures in the '40s that were of very high quality despite their low budgets. I enjoy many of them, though my favorites are (with one exception) not as well-known as some others. My choices: The Leopard Man
The Body Snatcher
Isle of the Dead
What say you?

The Curse of the Cat People-this is my favorite, but it hits me so hard I can't watch it very often. I felt lonely growing up, even around people I loved.
The Leopard Man-Good for repeated viewings.
The Body Snatcher-Wow! Plenty of creepy atmosphere and Boris Karloff.
I Walked With a Zombie-A ridiculous title, but an excellent watch.
When I think of horror or suspense, the Val Lewton style is what I prefer.

NalkarjI really need to see more films like those on your poll. Do I get points for having at least heard of some of them ?

The Ghost Ship and Curse of the Cat People don't really seem like horror movies and they are my least favorite Lewton movies. The rest are all great entertainment and very creepy. I'm still trying to decide which 3 to vote for.

I like all of Lewton's movies. I became aware of Val Lewton through reading the magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland when I was growing up. In the early 1970s I joined The Movie Book Club and through the club I bought the book Val Lewton:The Reality of Terror. After reading the book I had to see all of his movies and over time I think I have seem them all.
I really do not want to single out only three, but if I must.... The Body Snatcher Bedlam The Leopard Man

I just watched Bride of Frankenstein. And what did you think? Especially of the--er--personage featured in gunshotwound's avatar?

I just watched Bride of Frankenstein. And what did you think? Especially of the--er--personage featured in gunshotwound 's avatar? It was far from my first viewing of Bride. I have seen it numerous times. Dr Pretorious tries his best to steal every scene he's in and may do it. Funny and creepy and definitely a very real threat all at the same time. Great role. Bride may be better than Frankenstein.

Ah, apologies: I thought you meant you were seeing it for the first time. (I should have known better, with The Black Cat's Poelzig himself as your name and avatar!)
