Your 4 fav moments from the LOTR film trilogy. No more or less to pine your brain.
1. The Bridge of Khazad Dum; FOTR... spectacular action sequence matched by its incredible emotional turn. Never having had read the books previous, the slo-mo out to the stark mountain side, scored by the choir song, really truly sat me up in my seat. I knew then that this saga was going to be more than merely a fun adventure with set pieces.
2. Ride of the Rohirrim; ROTK... good gawd, the horn blowing alone gets me. Talkin' absolute full on suicide mission for all of Middle Earth here. B.Hill's performance, having to clang his sword with his f'n left hand while horseback speech... unbelievable.
3. Lothlorien; FOTR... more of a mini-act this, I absolutely love how Galadriel supernaturally enters the Fellowship's minds. There's a nice tonal arc of sorts here also, from darkened serenity overnight, to the gift offerings as the Fellowship canoe onwards. It's a well timed period of reflection as a viewer the entire act.
4. Bilbo's birthday; FOTR... that final evening in The Shire. I guess it's because it all feels so accessible, summer's night in lieu of any fantastical chaos. Gandalf's re-discovery of the ring, swiftly followed with his history lesson for Frodo is all top notch.

I never liked the battle scenes in the LotR movies - it always felt like two rank amateurs playing Total War against eachother, simply mashing their armies up against each other. All cavalry charges were particularly egregious. Plus marks in the Ride of the Rohirrim scene for showing orcish infantry wavering in the face of charging cavalry - but this was subsequently ruined by showing said cavalry stupidly impaling themselves on orcish infantry which wasn't wavering at all.
For me, the best moments were all character moments, as well as the mood that was set in Fellowship.

There are so many great scenes throughout the entire trilogy, it's hard to pick and sort them all out. Right now, I can only think of my Number 1:
"My friends, you bow to no one."
Always, always, brings a tear to my eye.

In no particular order:
Death of Boromir - This scene is action packed, exciting, and bitter sweet. On one hand, Boromir finds redemption for his earlier greed and saves Merry and Pippen. On the other hand, he dies at the hand of Lurtz while doing so. It's a very well executed death scene that tugs on the heart strings.
Gandalf's Ride through the Shire - I love this scene because it really builds on the world we've already seen a snippet of in the Prologue. We know how happy, innocent, and unknowing the Hobbits are. We know that Gandalf had a past adventure with Bilbo. We even see a slight nod by Gandalf that the outside world is seeing a darkness spread. It also has my favorite setting in any movie, the Shire, in full, joyful focus.
The Death of Gollum - This scene ends the movie (and the entire Trilogy) in its climax. Gollum, a tragic figure, dies without an ounce of redemption. He dies with his one love: the Ring.
Aragorn and Crew's Ride at Helms Deep - This scene is the turning of the tide in the Battle of Helms Deep. Our heroes show a kind of unselfish bravery that you just don't see in movies anymore.

It has been a while since I have watched these films entirely, so this list is subject to change. Still I give my selections.
4. Build Up to the Battle of Helms Deep - The Two Towers
Don't get me wrong the actual battle scene was fantastic, but the tone prior to the start of the battle of just immaculate. You can feel the fear and sense of hopelessness being experienced both from soldiers and the civilians hiding inside the caves. It simply did a magnificent job emulating the feeling of being a part of a desperate battle.
3. Moria Staircase - The Fellowship of the Ring
One of my favorite action scenes in all of cinema. Every aspect of it is epic. The setting is perilous. The scenery is threatening. The heroes are at a disadvantage. And the stakes continually rise to a fantastic climax. The Lord of the Rings trilogy gets a lot of praise for its large scale battle scenes (and not undeservedly so), but the Moria staircase is the one I rewatched endlessly.
2. Bilbo Steals Arkenstone - The Battle of the Five Armies
(I know what the post says Lord of the Rings moments, but I don't care, I like this moment and I am going to talk about it.)
This moment, above all else, exemplifies why Bilbo Baggins is a great character. Here he is able to find a way to negotiate a potentially peaceful resolution to the conflict between the dwarves and the elf/human forces. By taking the arkenstone as his portion of the treasure he shows all of his virtues in one scene. He is resourceful in his ability to find a different option, he is honest in his execution of his plan, and he shows his loyalty through willingness to sacrifice great wealth for the chance to save his companions from bloodshed. The scene also displayed some nice light hearted humor that helped break the serious tone of he rest of the film.
1. "Do You remember the Shire" - The Return of the King
Samwise Gamgee is a gardener. He is not a great warrior, a wizards, or really anything worthy of note. And yet, it has been argued that it is HE that is the true hero of The Lord of the Rings. Something made very concrete by this scene on Mount Doom in which he and Frodo have collapsed from exhaustion. With all hope fading into oblivion, Sam comforts Frodo by reminding him off what they had, where they started, and ultimately what they are fighting for; their home, The Shire. It is without a doubt, the most emotionally powerful scene in all the films.

The Last Alliance of Elves and Men where Isildur cut the Ring from Sauron's hand. Arwen's ride to the river to save Frodo. Jackson replaced Glorfindel with her, but I'm fine with it. I love the "plumed cavalry of waves". A detail from the book.
The Ents attack Isengard. Saruman never expected that. Eowyn and Merry's defeat of the King of the Nazgul thus fulfilling the prophecy that he would die by no man's hand.
Omitted scenes which I wish Jackson had included....
The love which grew between Eowyn and Faramir. They both had lost close relatives and they heal each other. Eowyn finally realizes she only had a passing crush on Aragorn. Jackson could've at least shown them holding hands at the end to give a hint of what happens. This would give closure to Eowyn's story.
The Scouring of the Shire. I think this is one of the most important parts in the books. It shows how the four hobbits had grown in so many ways. They were able to deal with the problems in the Shire with courage, resolve, leadership, wisdom and self-reliance.

Most of my favorite moments came from "Fellowship": 1. Boromir's last stand-brought grown men to tears. 2. The whole Mines of Moria scenes, including the Balrog. 3. Lothlorien 4. The lighting of the beacons.
HM: 'You bow to no one". Smeagol/Gollum arguing with each other Sam carries Frodo up the mountain
So many great moments. It's almost impossible to choose.

Besides the ones, that were already mentioned:
How the foot soldiers led by Isildur enter the scene at The Last Alliance of Elves and Men When the fellowship pass the viewer on their way to the south, while the Fellowship theme plays When the watcher in the water gets an arrow in the head, responding with a loud "uoooh" sound How Theoden looks at Grima, shortly after he regained his strength When the Ents finally emerge from the forest to fight Saruman Frodo and Sam acting like fanboys, when they see the Mûmakil for the first time The ride of Gandalf and Pippin from the gates of Minas Tirith all the way to the top

1. "Leave now and never come back!"
2. "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!"
3. "The ring is mine!"
4. "I am no man."

There are so many great scenes throughout the entire trilogy, it's hard to pick and sort them all out.
This^ is the problem I'm having with choosing only four favourite moments from the LOTR trilogy - I just have too many. I might've been able to narrow it down to ten possibly, but four is just too few.
For me, the best moments were all character moments, as well as the mood that was set in Fellowship.
Mainly for this^ reason - there's all the 'big' moments throughout the three films, and my first instinct would be to go with those more 'obvious' ones, but then there are so many 'little'/more 'intimate' character moments which I think helped make the movies so great in my mind. I wouldn't want to give up any of them and it's too hard to choose between them....so I'll just include the first four which immediately come to mind.
You've already mentioned two of mine, twothousandonemark...
It's a well timed period of reflection as a viewer the entire act.
and
The Bridge of Khazad Dum; FOTR... spectacular action sequence matched by its incredible emotional turn. Never having had read the books previous, the slo-mo out to the stark mountain side, scored by the choir song, really truly sat me up in my seat. I knew then that this saga was going to be more than merely a fun adventure with set pieces.
I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said about both sequences. If I were to talk about them, I would hardly be able to stop.
I think my other top moments which stand out to me the most have been mentioned already by others...
Death of Boromir
And it's a three-way tie for the last one...
Arwen's ride to the river to save Frodo. Smeagol/Gollum arguing with each other Sam carries Frodo up the mountain
Apologies for simply copying & pasting others' answers, but they just sum up my thoughts/favourite moments so well.
