Trouble in paradise (1932) Ask a Policeman (1939) passport to Pimlico (1949) the Green Man (1956) A hard day's Night (1964)
I must say though, i don't think much of an afterlife where you can only have five films. something should be done about it.

Something should be done about it. You misunderstand. These five are just your own personal choices. Both Heaven and Hell do already have extensive movie libraries. Heaven is particularly strong in English post-WWII movies and Ingmar Bergman. Hell has, among many others, every film featuring Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller.

Weird selections thus far. I mean, we're not talking "desert island", cause that would be different. We're talking about a way you want your spirit to be appeased and/or protected in the afterlife.
Tough call. Being sane, I would take five "positive" films, and I'm not sure there are five "positive" films in the history of film making. Negativity and hatred are paramount to the publishers of books and producers of movies. I'd avoid all demonic influence.
Even those films that claim to have characters coping with demons, so to speak, are usually just celebrations of demonic power.
"Pathos" in spirit would mean a recognition and respect, even when there is failure.
The "pathos" film would be useful in order to recognize evil spirits at work, but if it is too negative, then it only brings failure to your own spirit. That's what the demonic forces who own the minds of publishers and producers want.
So, a mixture that brings spiritual recognition, success, respect of the good instead of the bad, victory, joy, satisfaction, credibility of characters and motivation, and the best of humor. I'll take: 1. The Inspector General 2. The Lord of the Rings trilogy 3. Flesh+Blood 4. 49th Parallel 5. Shake Hands With the Devil

It really depends on either I'm sent to Heaven or to Hell. In Heaven 5 porn titles might become handy to trade along, but in Hell the biblical ones might be of great value...

1. LA Story - my favourite film 2. Commando - have to have Schwarzenegger film in there, and i can watch this again and again. 3. Back to the Future - just a great, fun movie, and full of nostalgia for me. 4. Dumb & Dumber - probably my favourite comedy 5. Ready to Rumble - I'd need to have some wrestling in the afterlife, and while beyond the mat is better, it doesn't have Oliver platt.

So hard to narrow it down to five, but for now:
1) Alice in Wonderland (1951) 2) What Dreams May Come 3) Arrival 4) Labyrinth 5) Dances With Wolves

In no particular order : 01. I Married A Witch (1942) 02. Requiem For A Vampire (1971) 03. Going Places (1974) 04. Laserblast (1978) 05. Creepozoids (1987) That is a very NON usual list of films. Well done sir. Laserblast has a intriguing difference in ratings on RT and imdb. 85% on RT and a super low 2.5 on imdb. Even total shit usually gets a 4 on imdb.

Shake Hands With the Devil Speaking for myself, I primarily watch films to be amused, so I just picked five of the films that amuse me most. I imagine one would need amusing in the afterlife as much as here, if not more. However, if the purpose of the films is to ward off evil spirits, i think laughter is a goid way of doing that. and the Beatles music certainly I think would keep evil spirits at bay.
