None of the money ever showed up in circulation. I can't believe he would go through all that trouble, just to bury the money and never spend it.

hi224, TheGoodMan19, politicidal, et al. My logical side tells me he died in the jump (and committed the hijacking just for the thrill of it); my "romantic," story-telling side tells me that he escaped, perhaps to another country. There was either a History, Discovery, or Travel show last year in which one so-called expert laid out a theory that Cooper actually faked the jump at the time we think he jumped and in fact jumped later, perhaps while the plane was even closer to Reno. Logic suggests otherwise, but I thought it a remarkably clever theory all the same. Does anyone know that one? I can't remember the details.

Certainly an interesting theory as we will never know whether he had a death wish at all.

It's most likely that he wore that training parachute that could not open, and fell to his death.
I think the only way we will ever know for sure, is if some hiker finds his remains with the parachutes.
If it is possible that he may have survived...
The big question is, as noted already... Why didn't he spend any of the money?... Maybe he and the money were separated during the jump, and he could not retrieve it to spend it...
One theory I heard was, there was another man who tried a similar hijacking later on, was captured, and killed. They may have been the same person.
I don't think we will ever know...

I believe I watched this documentary when it came out last year, if it's the same one. The doc I saw believed that the family that found some of the money several months (yrs?) later was working with Cooper himself to cover it up as a death, and had a couple of interesting witnesses to "prove" the theory. Probably not true, but they made some interesting new theories to keep it relevant.

I would like to believe that he lived and hid the money away just to remain anonymous. That's probably not all that likely.
Wasn't there one story about a lady that believed her father was DB Cooper? If I'm not mistaken, she said that he told her on his deathbed and eventually left her some hefty sum of cash.
At any rate, he's a pretty intriguing guy that almost makes me not want to know what happened.

Has there ever been a big-screen biopic of DB Cooper? I don't recall one. IF there was one in the 90s or the 00s than my top three choices for the role would've been...Nicolas Cage, Tommy Lee Jones or Hugo Weaving. Which of those three do you think would be best? Rank them from 3-1.
