Uhm no the black and white cinematography is what gave the movie this dark, creepy even sleazy atmosphere.

Computer coloring of old movies always looks unnatural. Limited color range on skin tones makes them all look like "Night of the Living Wax Dolls"

I have both version - I hate color version.... I used to have a DVD that had both versions but sold it away after getting the Optimum Home Entertainment Blu-ray. The weird thing is that someone paid me twice the price of Optimum Blu-ray for that DVD. I guess some people really like these colorized versions. I never watched more than maybe 15 minutes of it myself.

I sort of lukewarm side with those who prefer the black and white. That gave it some more atmosphere. Love the black comedy. For me, it's one of the two giant epic living dead films, the other being the one with Lori Cordille (I believe is her name), which pitted a gung ho soldier against the scientists.

That might be fun to watch, I bookmarked it for later. I'm one of the few that were okay with the psycho remake which was shot by shot. Tho I'm sure someone has colorised that also at some point too (2 lazy 2 google).

I know this thread is about the colorized version, but I just wanted to say that I saw the BW version last October in the theater. If you ever get that chance to see it in the theater, I strongly recommend it. I had only seen the film on TV. I thought it was good, and I respected it, but that was it. Seeing it on a large screen gave me a much greater appreciation for the cinematography and the characters' stories.

I've only ever seen it in B&W, and that's what works for me. Gives it a better creepy feeling.
