This was a popular thread on the old IMDb 1990s board.
Let's revive it: What do you miss most about the 1990s?
I'll start: The Playground at the McDonald's I used to visit "Video Games Heaven", a shop I used to visit Windows 95 and Navigator (yeah, I was one of the few who liked it)
I'll add more later.

The good programming on nickelodeon, some mtv shows, family sitcoms, the actors who were still living back then, the music being produced, the golden age of indie and blockbuster movies, the pre-matrix style of films, video stores, music shops, the economy, the corniness, the innocence.

There's not much I get nostalgic about when it comes to the 90's. But it was a time when they were showing all the tv shows from the 70's without hacking it to bits with commercials.

There were a handful of them in the 2000s, but these days they are virtually extinct.

I loved cable TV for that reason. I watched the "modern" shows like Rocko's Modern Life but also watched the classics like Bewitched. Not to mention commercial-free films and the huge number of documentaries!

But it was just amazing the amount of great classic stuff from the 60's and 70's they'd be constantly airing 20-30 years after the fact. There are some classic stations now, but they really have to edit the crap out of them to leave room for commercials.

100% off the rails: I think Woodstock 99 deserves a greater legacy.
90's music literally burned the doors down, leaving the 00's pop culture to fend for its lame self.

I miss the early internet. The signal to noise ratio was higher then.

Bookstores such as Borders, where you could spend an hour or two browsing and sampling the CDs, and also used bookstores.
Video stores--not the chains such as Blockbusters which usually had half a dozen copies of every mediocre mainstream Hollywood movie, but the small independent ones that could still be found in the backs of convenience stores, smaller drug stores, etc. which had eclectic selections of old classics, drive-in B movies, and other off-beat stuff.
Although this was the decade when they were really disappearing, a lot of radio stations were still around that played a wider variety of music, especially "oldies" from the '50s, '60s and '70s, not the '80s and later stuff which was mostly dreck.

I miss the 90s Bravo network the most. You would never know this today, but the 90s Bravo programming sometimes featured foreign and independent films, often critically acclaimed and intellectually stimulating selections. This was before I got my first computer and it allowed me to see films about which I knew almost nothing and was reluctant to blindly rent them if they were even available at the local video stores. In just a few years I had been exposed to more great foreign films than I had in the previous decades.

I miss the music. I loved the Grunge scene of the early to mid 90's. I miss being young and not having a care in the world. I miss having an almost unlimited amount of free time to hang with my friends. I miss my relatives who were alive then but are now gone. I miss being able to watch my favorite football, baseball, and basketball players who played during that time but are now retired. I miss alot.
