Not bad at all, if you recall even Nolan's last recent efforts had an opening around that very amount as well.

I was thinking at least $60 million. $40 million would be disappointing.

Doesn't sound great, but Nolan's movies typically have good legs.

not sure if summer is the best time for this type of movie to open In general I would agree. It feels like something that would be better opening during late Fall. However, the box office this year has been all messed up. Some of the best performing movies were released in March, and I feel like just about everything that isn't a superhero movie has been underperforming this summer. So opening Dunkirk in late July when it's biggest competition will most likely be another spider-man movie two weeks into it's release may not be the worst idea. If it's a good movie I hope it does well.

Now estimated to make 50 million after that big 5.5 million Thursday night. With a budget around 150 million, great reviews, and Nolan films having great legs, there is little doubt that it will make at least 200 million domestically.

50m is a pretty good start fora film like this. It won't be as frontloaded as most comic book movies or large event films.
