Generally speaking when it comes to movies or tv, if the thing originated for that medium, I think a remake is going to be inferior. There may be one or two exceptions.
Remakes of stories adapted from another medium--like the Thing, or Invasion of Body Snatchers, or the Blob--I am ok with that if the remake has a reason to exist.
In the case of Fright Night--it is a total cash in. The original was a love letter to older horror movies. What is Fright Night the remake a love letter to?
And Colin Farrell is a studio hack!
Dont compare him to a bonafide character actor legend like McDowall.
I mean, the guy played a friggin' talking chimp being tortured on a slab with electrodes.
