I've been watching it every Sunday night on MeTV. Excellent fangirl1975 ! Unfortunately I tend to miss these showings because I'm usually watching other programs in that same time slot at that time . However I do have this entire show ( and the two pilot movies too ) on DVD . So I tend to sometimes " binge watch " this show late at night it's just total classic fun and reminds me of the old school days too . It appears that the next MeTV showings are : 2/26 10:00PM - The Devil's Platform 3/5 10:00PM - Bad Medicine Both excellent episodes IMPO . Thanks so much fangirl1975 for your reply .

I have caught it a few times on MeTV. But I had already watched a bunch of the episodes on iTunes.
My favorites are The Werewolf, The Ripper, The Spanish Moss Murders and The Horror in the Heights.
Very good show! Much better than the remake.

I have the entire series on DVD. It's about time Universal upgraded it to Blu-ray.

I have all of the series on DVD. Since I'm drawn to the supernatural and things of that sort, this always appealed to me. And Gavin's dry sense of wit and humour just added to the show's delivery. One episode I seem to particularly remember is the one where his secretary gets possessed and he runs into her in an alleyway and tells her to stop moving, and she keeps walking towards him, and he ends up shooting her to reveal a monster.

Hello there again Merrida ! I also have this collection and the 2 pilot movies on DVD . I'm actually about to watch the episode you described here called " Horror in the Height " episode 11 (ad - 12/20/1974) . It's another favorite of mine too and about a creature known as the Rakshasa . That scene is a bit unsettling when the Rakshasa pretends to be Kolchak's co worker and dearest friend Miss Emily and he has to make a decision to know if it is her or not . Thanks so much Merrida for your reply .

I could have sworn I talked about Kolchak somewhere else on this site. Maybe I was in the Night Gallery of the Twilight Zone though.

I would like to chime in and say that I'm a huge fan of Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Nobody else could have created Kolchak's wise-cracking, headstrong persona better than Darren McGavin, and Simon Oakland is equally great as the grouchy, sarcastic bureau chief Tony Vincenzo. McGavin and Oakland had terrific chemistry together when they butted heads.
The show was a perfect blend of horror and humor, crackling with sharp and witty dialogue (much of it courtesy of David Chase, whether he was credited for it or not). Since it was done a limited budget, the make-up effects ranged from impressive to not-so-impressive. But that's fine, it was the writing and lead performances that really made the show count.
My top 5 favorite episodes are:
The Spanish Moss Murders Horror In The Heights The Zombie Chopper The Vampire
The 2005 reboot was a travesty for so many reasons.

Yeah, it was terrible. I think I watched the first episode and that was enough for me. I wanted to like the reboot but it was trying to be the X-files but missing what made the x-files good. That was the problem, the reboot was an X-Files wannabe. It just didn't work.

I actually bought my DVD Collection of this show about 10 years ago and so far never had any trouble with it . Perhaps it's the newer model DVD Collections that are being sold now NxNWRocks ? IMPO - It seems some of the newer merchandise these days are not made as well as it used to be . Hopefully this won't happen to the Blu-Ray collections down the line either .

Have the dvd set from the 2000s.
And the two tv movies. McGavin actually kept a website going fairly early on in the internet days and there was lots of Night Stalker related stuff on it.
Kolchak: I saw Victor Friese get his back snapped. I heard it crunch! And the man who did it was dead. Dead! And had been dead for over two weeks!
Vincenzo: Well I envy him! At least he's getting some sleep!

Love McGavin's Night Stalker.
The TV movies were fantastic. Some of the TV epidodes were very good. Loved that they used older actors.
I think the problem was that they had a monster in episode. Some episodes should have been scams, and let Vincenzo be right once a few times,

and let Vincenzo be right once a few times, Hmm that's an interesting idea. I wish they showed more of Kolchak doing non-horror reporting just so we could see him doing something normal. In the Zombie episode they mentioned he crashed a mafia wedding.

Certainly, that was TV then.
NOW, look around your TV schedule, and realize how many TV shows, as part of their 'theme', haven't done the same thing on multiple occasions.
Kolchak. did it every week.
I didn't want a 2nd season.
