Seems to me that Forrest Gump is a two hour advert for conservative politics.
He fights for his country = good Jenny protests the war = bad
He respect authority = good Jenny rebels = bad.
He is sexually naïve = good Jenny is sexually promiscuous = bad
He plays sports = good She is artistic = bad
He embraces capitalism = good Jenny rejects material gain = bad
He is obedient and unquestioning = good Jenny is cynical and provocative = bad
He is dumb and patriotic = good Jenny is liberal and free spirited = bad

Well, Forrest indeed serves in Vietnam but sees no point to it. He also sadly notes gun violence on more than one occasion. Is he religious at all? I don't think so. Not conservative positions.
I took Forrest Gump to represent the American people as a whole – not very bright but basically decent, capable of muddling through and avoiding the extremes.

I think Forrest Gump is a celebration of the beta male and as usual, an attack on white people in general.
Forrest is a stupid Southerner.
Jenny comes from a home with an abusive father. Dan comes from a traditional military family and expects to die for his country. She gets Aids or something, Dan gets handicapped, marries a Vietnamese woman.
Also, the famous songs and cultural discoveries of white people are dismissed as flukes or inspired by an idiot--not due to white people's creativity and intelligence.
It is the same demoralization--traditional society is bad--white people suck message that the Hollywood owners love so much.
Honestly, I give up trying to find a message in a major Hollywood film that doesn't have that kind of subtle demoralization message.
The idea that it is really an attack on Liberals is just a diversion from the ethnic tribal focus.
"How does it feel to be an All American?"
"I gotta pee."

things like civil rights and women's rights are mentioned in a positive light in Forrest Gump which would anger conservatives

The American President
It centers around a gun control bill the POTUS is trying to get passed because people don't understand the link between guns and gun-related crime.
"I'm going to get the guns", he proclaims. Nice fantasy.
We're going to launch an attack on our enemy, but we're not going to blow up the one's making policy. We're going to wait until the janitorial crew is there after hours and blow them up.
At a climactic moment, the domestic policy adviser (Michael J. Fox) compares Americans desperately in need of leadership to nomads who need a drink of water but get a glass of sand. The president bitterly replies: "They drink the sand because they don't know the difference." Ahhh the dumb, deluded, electorate.
The Democrat in the movie is good, the Republican is bad.

The liberal Jenny gets what she deserved (aids) while Forrest gets rich. His life choices are rewarded; hers punished.

I actually love that film. Definitely has a liberal narrative but he's a liberal president so fair enough. I saw the gun thing less as an attack on conservative values and more of a jab at Democrats and their spineless gun control measures. If you're gonna go after guns then go after them... don't just pay lip service to some insipid law that means you have to wait an extra day to buy your Uzi.

I think you are missing the point about Forrest Gump.
He does all of what you say but he does it because he doesn't know any better.

Miss Sloane (2016) - Strongwilled female lobbyist grows a conscious and launches a gun control campaign.
The Contender (2000)- A female Democratic politician's appointment by a liberal president is being obstructed by a right wing conspiracy among Congressional republicans led by a shady looking Gary Oldman (who does not subscribe to a left-wing political philosophy himself).
Blood Diamond (2006) - I think this is an issue everyone agrees is bad unless you're an African dictator.
W. (2008) - It's by Oliver Stone for god's sake. What wasted potential too.

Playing sports is conservative, while being artistic is liberal? Are you positive about that?

Playing sports is conservative, while being artistic is liberal? Are you positive about that? Well that is the general thought. Sports represents conformity while art represents freedom of thought.

Whether that is deliberate or not I don't know

Maybe it undoes all the pro-conservative sentiment though by making him a retard?

Playing sports is conservative, while being artistic is liberal? Are you positive about that? It's a standard shorthand trope in movies for aggressive jock type guy and sensitive free-spirited guy and therefore by extension conservative and liberal.
