I'm about to watch INLAND EMPIRE for the first time... It better not suck Spoiler alert. It sucks! Yes but you think that about all the Lynch stuff xD This one didn't make sense and I struggled after the first hour. It got better near the end but was still nonsensical. I understand he didn't even bother with a script for it. Most of his stuff makes complete sense to me (Mulholland Drv, Lost Highway, and yes The Return too). This one did not.

I'm about to watch INLAND EMPIRE for the first time... It better not suck It's his masterpiece IMO, but it's pretty divisive. Similar thematically to Mulholland Dr. but deeper, more abstract and nightmarish. I liked the first hour a lot. And I also liked the VFX in it, it's similar to TP: The Return in that regard. As a matter of fact the whole Digital aesthetic of it made it interesting. Usually I'm okay with experimental and nonsensical but the second hour didn't work for me. The ending (from the time she was walking along sunset blvd until the rabbits) was interesting too and well acted. I wish I could have made more sense of it while I was watching.

I don't think that about all the Lynch stuff. I have said repeatedly that I am a big fan of Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man, The Straight Story and the original Twin Peaks. I like several other of his works to a lesser degree. However, I think he has become very lazy and have no problem pointing out how pseudo intellectual sycophants are to blame.

Like most Lynch it doesn't make a lot of sense first viewing, the more you see it the more you piece together little links and you get a vague thread of a few interlocking stories. It definitely leaves things more open ended and ambiguous than Mullholland Dr.
