I'm writing a book set between 1910 and 1925, and a lot of it takes place in desolate towns in the middle of nowhere. Still at the beginning, in 1910, so I've been listening to a lot of soundtracks which evoke a sense of that time and atmosphere for me (as well as a ton of regular tunes from that era, lots of Scott Joplin, Haydn Quartet, and Henry Burr).
August: Osage County - Original score by Gustavo Santaolalla
Days of Heaven - and - The Legend of 1900 - Original score by Ennio Morricone
Somewhere in Time - Original score by John Barry

At current here and just got through watching the movie for it also ( awesome and intense film too ! - a definite classic now ) . Léon: The Professional [The Extended Soundtrack] - [1994] Will be checking out these other soundtrack recommendations here as well ( looks like an excellent bunch of unique soundtracks here too ! ) . Thanks so much pimpinainteasy for your subject post .

Excellent choice here MarilynLuvsTigger ! When I first started watching this show I used to listen to this one on YouTube at least 5 to 7 times a day ( such a beautiful song just can't stop listening to it enough either ! ) . I'm so looking forward to the new season of this fine show as well ( I believe it's next month - April 16th ? ) . Thanks MarilynLuvsTigger for this wonderful song choice here too .

Right now it's John Williams' legendary score to "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope".

I decided to highlight the best or finest moments from this score under: 00:00/01:43 03:32/05:13 05:50/09:20 Been hooked on some of the stuff Jerry Goldsmith did on Runaway (1984), not a bad sci-fi/action-thriller and while it might sound a bit "dated" and chaotic in some parts, I really do love the beautiful, futuristic love theme, and I wished someone would edit out the love theme, as it deserves a better fate than being stuck in between the very hectic/chaotic synth-sounds that just are all over the place, and I do not recommend listening to the whole clip on very loud volume, and wearing headphones.
A short and maybe better/more beautiful video/clip of the love theme, but again ruined in the beginning and end by the awful all-over-place synth-sounds: Best moments are between: 00:37/04:06
