I just wanted to know what movie(s) surprised you the most in terms of disappointing box-office this year so far? I'm talking about the ones that you never thought would underperform or flop and please explain why.
For me, it's probably WFTPOTA because the second film did pretty damn well and it got really good reviews like this one. But when I found out that there's only some action but not as much as the previous film...I figured that is why it's not doing as well. Basically, people get bored these days when they go to see a sequel expecting to see alot of action and walk out feeling misled by the trailers IMO.

Transformers: The Last Knight. It's still done fairly well but for the series, it's pretty low.

I'd probably go with War for the Planet of the Apes as well. Like you said though, the film was probably hurt by the fact that it didn't really have a whole lot of action in it, despite having "war" in the title.
On a lesser note, Transformers: The Last Knight has also somewhat surprised me. While I always expected it to be the lowest grossing film in the series domestically, I didn't quite expect it to be struggling just to reach $600 million.

Yeah, that surprised me too IMO. Although I did have a feeling that people were getting a little bored/tired of the series, which I understand. Also, I think people complained about the different aspect ratios which switched throughout the film...that could've been a big reason too which pissed off audiences IMO. Oh yeah, and maybe the 'Knights of England' story was stupid for some customers as well.

Yeah, it's definitely shocking they're both underperforming. In the case of POTC 5, there's another sequel that I think people didn't feel was needed...not to mention the last one came out six years ago.

Baywatch also a little surprising, cause the The Rock has been on a hot streak lately. But apparently the movie was terrible. People may be getting sick of seeing him in too many movies.

That could be the case for Baywatch. I mean, yeah Dwayne Johnson does a few films every year, and I enjoy him as an action star and actor...but it's possible some people have 'The Rock fatigue'. Also, I think audiences didn't think there needed to be a Baywatch film although I haven't seen it. It looks entertaining at least so I'll check it out at some point.

Of course, another thing that people might be forgetting is the fact that most celebs have been giving their opinions on Trump/politics which has made millions of customers not want to see their films. That's a huge reason too IMO. But this is the 'Box Office' board LOL.
What other films?

I certainly didn't notice anything when I saw it and I actually know what aspect ratios are.

I'm mostly referring to the 2D version...and on Reddit it was one of the more irritating elements of the film according to almost every user who saw it. I will admit it's surprising that the director/producers didn't consider that alot of people would complain about the technical presentation IMO. The previous films didn't change ratios...at least not the 2D ones, but it might have been a major reason for the big drop in box-office money. Also, isn't Optimus Prime in it for about 10 minutes? Another disappointment for audiences too.

Another disappointment for audiences too. I saw it in 2D and didn't notice anything. I think people are just tired of the franchise and there is too much competition (not just in theaters but elsewhere as well). The movie still did quite well as you know but just not as well as previous installments.

So far Transformers. I new it was unlikely to hit a billion like the last two movies, but I thought it would at least hit 900 million.

Transformers: TLN did shock me cause it seemed a given that it would reach at least closer to the box-office of AOE. But like I said, I definitely believe that the multiple-ratio switches throughout, even during individual scenes, was enough of a distraction for many viewers to complain and even ask for a refund IMO. I honestly think it's a little jarring that the studio allowed that for the 2D version...it's pretty disappointing and distracting.
Also, people are getting tired of the series too.

Alien: Covenant. Opened 10 million below expectations then dropped like a brick on it's second outing. And this despite the film getting generally positive reviews, but it seems the average moviegoer was much less forgiving than the critics were when it's typically the other way around

I think the reason Covenant didn't do as well as Prometheus was....basically, alot of fans of the series didn't want to see Prometheus 2 but with Aliens in it IMO. Remember, that's a pretty divided movie among Alien fans ever since it came out in 2012.

Remember, that's a pretty divided movie among Alien fans ever since it came out in 2012. I love Prometheus and I was eager to learn more about the engineers. But this...director turned it into a primitive monster movie. After the first trailer I was done with it. Actually with the first secene of the trailer when a stupid whore - yeah, most likely supposed to be a scientist or whatever - is hiding/or being trapped and is crying like a spoiled bitch. After this I searched the internetfort the actual content/plot of the flick, and it confimed the worst: a monster movie - the hide and run of imbeciles. It has neither the profound ideas of Promotheus, nor the style-, and/or ground-breaking approach of the classics (intelligent monster movies).

It would've been interesting what the director of District 9 would've done with a fifth film IMO. Anyway, do you consider Spider-Man: Homecoming to be doing well or is it a disappointment?
