Yi Ge Ren De Wu Lin (Kung Fu Jungle) / Teddy Chan (2014). Hong Kong superstar Donnie Yen makes something of a comeback after a few years of not many movies and those he did make not very successful. Yen, plays a former martial arts master who accidentally kills someone in a fight. He has been in prison for three years when a mysterious unknown Kung Fu fighter begins killing other masters of differing styles: legs, grappling, weapons, etc. Heading the investigation into this unusual serial killer is Madam Luk (Charlie Yeung). Yen gets in touch with her claiming that he can help solve the case but only if he is released to do it. Yen’s girlfriend is played by Bing Bai and the killer – who has a disability – is played by Baoquing Wang, who really makes an impression here. There are several expertly edited action set-pieces. The finale, a 10 minute sequence that has Yen and Wang squaring off in the middle of a three-lane freeway, is absolutely amazing – and nerve-racking. Friends, Hollywood simply cannot come up with these kinds of action thrills. Kudos to the musical score by Peter Kam. This film is available on Netflix U.S. under the title “Kung Fu Killer.” If there is a better martial arts film from 2014, please let me know about it.
