This was awesome. Transitional from 60's through 70's. This show was the precursor and paved the way for Saturday Night Live! Was never a great fan of Rowan and Martin; the show was all about the supporting players and skits. Ruth Buzzy, Lilly Tomlin, Artie Johnson, Goldie Hahn, Judy Carne, Jo Ann Worley, Henry Gibson,...etc... Even the humorless Richard Nixon showed up to say "Sock it to me"!

i absolutely loved it. In particular i loved. Henry Gibson's poems, and lily tomlin as the telephone operator, and the german coming out of the bush saying 'very interesting'. They never seem to repeat it here in the Uk though, which is very disappointing. i would love to see it again.

They were advertising a DVD collection which reminded me of the show!

But yes I would like to watch a view episodes for a kick.

@martin
It's being shown on THE DECADES channel and being topical it sure isn't quite the same when seen as a decades old re-run. Some of it is still fun but it's so busy and frenetic !

Much of Laugh-ins humor was of the "that's so stupid that it's funny" variety and "lets see if we can get this past the censors". I always liked the Poems by Henry Gibson and Jo-Ann's Chicken Jokes and seeing who the surprise guests would be. When nothing much else is on, it's still fun to take a look at.

I just discovered I can watch it on Amazon Prime. HAving watched the first fifteen episodes, I still find some of it funny. Not all of it, but then in a sketch show I think that's inevitable.

...and IMO, Rowan & Martin were greatly influenced by Ernie Kovacs from his 1950's show.

Right about the Kovacs influence, Kosko. I can see it. Good show, I wonder how it would play today. It was so topical. The 1968 episodes were hilarious, for 1968. Laugh-In ran longer,--was it five years?--than one might think. That's a good run, mostly post-Sixties. When the show started variety shows were still popular, which would soon change, though the change didn't hurt Laugh-In (or Dean Martin, either). Goldie Hawn was so cute on the show.
I knew Henry Gibson's work from other things he'd done, was delighted to see him become at least a minor star, or journeyman star, for a few years anyway. Laugh-In really captured the feelgood side of the Sixties. It was such a tumultuous decade of huge social change, most of it serious; but not all of it. Laugh-In brought out the best of the Sixties: a time to live, laugh and have fun. Yeah, I know: middle of the road. Not for hardcore hippies and radicals. It was the Sixties for the "straight", not the hip people. Kinda like Johnny Carson, but geared to a somewhat younger crowd.
