1983's songs are nowhere near as good as 1984's songs. If you are talking about the US '84 list I'd have to disagree. Personally I'd take any week of UK charts against any week of US from the 80's. UK charts does have the odd novelty record pop up, which rarely happens in the US one (Snot Rap!!!) but on the other hand, the US chart rarely had bands that were a little more left field (you'd never see stuff like The Jam, The Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen, New Order etc in the US 40, let alone 10) or were appreciated earlier (U2 had 5 UK Top 20 hits before their first US Top 40). Of course it is all down to personal taste. |
