WAR MACHINE sounds like a porn title, right? Actually, a porn would probably have a more consistent tone. This movie changes from farce to political drama to war thriller. GENERAL GLEN MCMAHON, the protagonist, remains a cartoon from beginning to end so, in the non-comedic scenes, he feels out of place. Too bad, because I liked the idea of Brad Pitt playing a combination of his characters from INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS and BURN AFTER READING (2 of my favorite movies). There's a scene where HAMID KARZAI (the President of Afghanistan) tells GLEN "I'm behaving like a leader: I'm unavailable." I thought it was a witty line. Then he ruined it by explaining it: "I'm as unavailable as your president." That should give you an idea of how obvious the handling of the themes is. 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog (in English, in Spanish or in Italian).
