"The Gift" is a gem of a season finale and part of me thinks it would have been a powerful and daring way of ending the series itself, but "The Body" is harder for me to watch. The whole thing is so utterly grounded and realistic. It's an episode that connects with me personally because my own mother was diagnosed with a brain tumour when I was a kid. She survived the operations thankfully, but I was terrified she wouldn't make it, so Buffy's mother dying in the aftermath of a brain operation that supposedly went well is nightmare territory for me. Whenever I watch it, I always end up thinking "Buffy could have been me in that scenario." For that reason, I find it to be the most disturbing episode in the entire series.
