I don't think it had anything to do with race. Moonlight is a better film and deserved to win.

I'm waiting for next year when a movie about a Mexican transgender will take best picture. It will have to have all the Mexican clichés or it would not stand a chance

I find it hard to believe that the movie tied with the most nominations ever somehow mysteriously did not manage to get the requisite amount of votes needed to win. It's clear that the Academy wanted to make a societal/political statement, and Moonlight ticked off all the right boxes for that.

I don't think it had anything to do with race. Moonlight is a better film and deserved to win. It had everything to do with race. Last year, they made such a stink about not enough black nominations and then what happens this year? You think that is coincidence? I never trust now when a black person is nominated or wins any award.

It had nothing to do with race.
Moonlight won Best Pic over LLL at many award shows... LLL didnt even get nominated at times while Moonlight did

Hacksaw Ridge deserved it more than all of them as far as I'm concerned.

Yikes. Just a sad state of affairs, this whole Oscars circus. Seems Best Picture in 2017 and onward now will have an asterisk by it, the humiliating and slightly hilarious meltdown at the end immortalized on YouTube forever lest anyone forget.

As Lee Daniels said, the previous year, he hadn't seen any black performances or films that were Oscar-worthy. This year was just the right time.

Go back into your alt-right bubble and stay there where you can pretend that you live in a world where White People - if not White Males - win all the prizes, get all the promotions, and are paid the most money, and where, if a minority person succeeds, it is because of "politics," "political correctness," or "reverse discrimination." Heil, tRump. You, and conservatism, make the world lousy.

Heil, tRump. You, and conservatism, make the world lousy. I used to be a liberal. But I saw about 10 years ago where liberalism was headed. Today, we see liberalism as this fanatic fascist ideology, with followers who will try to literally attack anyone who is not a liberal. This last election, we saw liberals bloodying Trump supporters. There are plenty of Youtube videos. We saw them continue their assault on free speech. Free speech!!!! That used to be the focal point of liberalism, of discussion of ideas especially those that were contrarian. You now have Antifa, which is ironically about as fascist as they come, and BLM, which I witnessed harassing white people for being white. How is that for irony? I am all for equality. I mean real equality, not the liberal bullshit where all minorities are treated like little children who can't even burp properly without government assistance. Of course, I despise affirmative action. And this latest insanity in Charlottsville proved I was right about liberalism. It's gone way off the deep end. A man like Robert E. Lee? That's who you choose to vilify? He was maybe the most beloved man, on both sides, of the Civil War. Then you proceed to destroy any other monuments you deem 'offensive' to your idea of proper history. If you are getting the idea liberals now make me sick, then you are right. Liberals do make me sick. I guess we are almost all liberals. Then some of us, many of us, finally grow up. Conservatives rarely attacked me when I was a liberal. When I became more conservative, I started getting attacked all the time by 'tolerant' liberals. The litmus test for me? When Obama won election and then re-election, how many conservatives rioted? Any? I don't remember any of them doing that. But when Trump won, all we had were more liberals rioting, fittingly dressed in black attire and hoods. And then you have the GALL to talk about conservatives making the world 'lousy'?

Any? I don't remember any of them doing that. But when Trump won, all we had were more liberals rioting, fittingly dressed in black attire and hoods. And then you have the GALL to talk about conservatives making the world 'lousy'? Dude, that’s quite a hysterical word salad. Talk about living in a bubble! BTW, you never “used to be a liberal.” Whatever it was you were, it was not liberal, progressive, for equal rights, or anything resembling that. At Charlotte: There was only one side who came with long guns, para-military gear, baseball bats, Nazi flags, and Confederate flags. Only one side gave the Nazi salute, chanted Make America White Again, Make America Great Again. Only one side watches Fox News. Only one side drove a car into a crowd and killed an innocent person. Only one side are Republicans. They are all the same side. When Republicans say “liberals” (the word has come to mean only “NOT alt-right”) are demonizing anyone who disagrees with them, should remember that conservatives vote to tear families apart and deport the parents of American kids; they voted for private prisons to funnel black bodies and for civil rights abuses to go uninvestigated and unpunished; Republicans supported a serial adulterer who bragged about fucking other men’s wives and committing sexual assault. Republicans support failed economic policies (Reagan “trickle down”) whose only goals are to funnel the wealth of the nation to the wealthier and whiter. These are all policy positions championed by neo-Nazis, the alt-right, White Nationalists and any other brand of white supremacist. The Republican Party is riding the coattails of white supremacy to tap into racial, gender, and class rage. You can contend that conservatism is something other than white supremacy, but you’d be wrong (or lying). You can vote Republican and vehemently insist you’re not a white supremacist, but you'd be wrong (or lying). Don’t mistake the condemnation of conservatism as being a mere matter of disagreement. The failure of Republicans to grasp the cause of the scorn of patriots and decent people is dwarfed only by their failure as human beings. And BTW, “Moonlight” was the best picture of the year and would have been even if the characters were green, blue…or white. It is universal.

I used to be a liberal. You will not believe that because liberals today are such intolerant assholes they can't see anything beyond themselves. If you think liberalism today is in any healthy, you are demented. Have a nice life.

Stone was great and it was well made. But I was surprised that the plot was rather predictable. 7/10. Then again, I'm not into musicals that much.

Conservatism 101: If white people win it is because they earned it; if any person of color wins it is because dirty politics or condescension is involved. That is just the way conservatives think and you can't talk or beat it out of them. You just have to defeat them at the polls.

Hollywood and the Oscars are not controlled by whites.
The ludicrousness of it is to say the Oscars aren't black enough as if anglo-saxon protestants or any other European heritage group has any say in decisions in the awards show or studios.
I bet the Warren Beatty thing was staged too so both Lala Land producers and the token gay black winner could claim the limelight.

It always has been, always will be. Rewarding movies like Forrest Gump or The English Patient forever & ever would be lame. To its credit, I think a film like La La Land would've had greater chance within the old 5 nominees max.
