I'm not anti woman. I'm all for equal opportunity. I do feel that women written/driven/directed shows and movies rely far too much on petty drama and neglect other plot themes. I want this to be an non-inflammatory open discourse. People are different. Why else would trans-people be, if not for this fact.

Women tend to write and prefer shows about relationships. I do not like shows about relationships and avoid shows or movies about subject matter that does not interest me. I don't care if Ross is dating Tiffany and whether or not they have a baby and get married. So naturally my hatred for shows about relationships limits my viewing of female-centric shows.

Otherwise I don't care who writes, directs, produces something if it's good work. It doesn't matter to me that Amy Heckerling directed Fast Times, it's still one of my favorite movies.

It's not them as much as the studio owners. They are the ones deciding what gets made. They could hire a McTiernan or Friedkin type if they wanted to. They don't. And they don't need to worry about profits since the parent company is loaded.
Frankenstein was written by a woman. King Kong was written by a woman.
I think it may not be so much about gender (though it can play a factor) as who they hire and what they let them do.

As much as I don't like to agree, I do. There are only a few female writers whose work I admire as much (so many) male writers. When I can, I go to the cinema "blind", not knowing who wrote it. So often I tell myself "this was good, I wonder if maybe…" and nope, over and over it is more often than not written by a male.
Now I cant be a judge of if there is any artificial barrier that prevents female writers from succeeding or being so visible, or if simply less women like screenwriting , but in the end I cant recall any female Aaron Sorkin, Taylor Sheridan or Drew Goddard…
What baffles me is when I see a really good film or show ABOUT women, with whole and interesting female characters and then you go to the credits and boom, written by a man. Like Big Little Lies (David Kelly) or the great 20th Century Women (Mike Mills).
I do enjoy Kelly Reichardt or Sofia Coppola here and there, but it never brought me to the level of amazement like for example Sorkin or Tarantino do with pretty much everything they write.

The problem is the movie and TV industry itself. There are a lot of female writers who are nothing like you described who are successful authors and comic book writers that haven't had their stories adapted into movies and TV shows due to sexism. I would suggest reading some of Tara Moss' novels like 'Fetish', 'Split', 'Covet, 'Hit', 'The Blood Countess' and 'The Skeleton Key.' Gail Simone is a great suggestion if you are into comic books and her 'Red Sonja', 'Batgirl' 'Birds of Prey', 'Wonder Woman' and 'Swords of Sorrow (which was the biggest team up of female characters in comic book history written by some of the best female comic book writers) were awesome. A 'Red Sonja' movie written by Gail or Amy Chu based on the latest series with Red Sonja in the present would be nothing like anything we have ever had on screen before!! The upcoming 'Batgirl' movie will be the first movie based on a comic book series by a female writer (Gail Simone) and that series was far darker and more violent than any of the Batman movies we have had and had blood and gore.' Edit: ohh and I would suggest this by Marjorie Liu
