Over the last couple seasons, as ratings have dipped somewhat, I've heard many people (both IRL and online) belittle the show by saying, "Nobody watches that s**t anymore". Just a little comparison: Westworld, a show that is generally considered a hit, gets less than 2 million viewers a night. Walking Dead gets 11 million.

Meh, so many people are fickle, and have the attention span of gnats. A lot of people can't handle a story or plot that last longer than the time between commercial breaks. Not saying the show is perfect. It has lots of flaws, but I've watched from the beginning and feel invested in it at this point. I still enjoy it. If I didn't, then I would quit.

Just a little comparison: Westworld, a show that is generally considered a hit, gets less than 2 million viewers a night. Walking Dead gets 11 million. Apples to Oranges. Networks such as ABC and CBS expect a 'hit' show to have 15M viewers. If it dips below 10M viewers, they consider it failing. Cable Networks such as AMC, TNT, USA expect 5-8M viewers per episode to be a hit (original shows). So TWD is still a ratings phenom compared to Cable Network shows. Then channels such as "The CW" and "UP" "ION" etc... a hit show (original shows) is 2-4M viewers per episode. Thats why "Supergirl" went to the CW. It wasn't getting enough viewers for CBS, but plenty for The CW. Then you have premium channels and streaming (e.g. HBO. SHOtime, Netflix) and they aren't bound to ad revenue from commercials, so it doesn't matter how many viewers they get, they are subscription networks. They are more worried about the show being a critical hit and bringing in new viewers. So Westworld is bringing in new viewers to HBO, Game of Thrones as well, two different types of audiences, they want to diversify their subscribers and expand.

Also, your comparison isn't a good comparison.
