I still can't believe that they did this to a Stephen King work:

Ignoring all the Direct-to-DVD B-grade movies, my picks are:
1. The Hulk from "The Hulk" 2. The Scorpion King from "The Mummy Returns" 3. The sharks in Jaws 3 and 4

Julian Sands "flying" in Warlock. Also, Julian Sands' "magic" in the same film, which was clearly produced on a Commodore Amiga or some such; it probably looked OK at the time, but has dated terribly. (Love the film, though.)

Nearly every Ed Wood movie ever made. They're so bad they've become cult viewing.

Does CGI count as a Special Effect? Sure. Cool. In that case I would say Red Tails, I didn't last more than 10 minutes, it is like watching a computer game. I also think the Star Wars prequels have to have a special mention for overdone CGI, dogfights which look so crowded you wonder how they aren't colliding all the time. Just a mess.

It would have to be from The The Terrornauts where a volcano belches fire and smoke which go up into the air....BEHIND the two planets in the sky!. An obvious glass painting effect that they didn't execute very well, but left it in.. I love the movie though. I bought the DVD a while ago, because I saw it back in the 60's and thought it was great.

Trog's make-up in Trog is pretty poor.
The Anaconda in Anaconda gave CGI a bad rep for years.
The original Godzilla from the 50s is sad. When we first see Godzilla, he's an obvious handpuppet.
The Beast Within has a scene involving bladder effects that must be viewed to appreciate. Truly awful.

The Tingler with Vincent Price, they had total balls back then, you can see the thing being pulled around by a string. Why 8 year old brains refuse to register it I don't know -then again I watched Tom and Jerry hit each other back and forth with various interchangeable appliances and couldn't get enough of that either. Scary.

Psycho Shark: incredibly bad www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FEomw1y2ecI could list a lot trash movies here, but this one is really one of the worst. The Immortal Voyage of Captain Drake was also pretty bad. Dor big productions: The Hobbit. Some CGI was laughably bad, looked like a video game.

Scary. Oh, yeah, The Tingler is very bad. I saw it when I was 6 and was scared! Seeing it as an adult, the thing's laughable. Just a piece of rubber pulled by a very visible string. Awful!

That was the intent of the Hobbit, the studio no longer had merchandising rights but retained video rights, that and Peter Jackson has a Video Gaming Co. or something in New Zealand. Totally right, that film is really embarrassing to look at. Jackson's 'King Kong' is also an insult to the original- speaking of great old-time effects that still hold up. (another thread). 1933- Wow impressive. Fay Wray
