By my count only seven out of the thirty threads I see on the first page are on topic for this board, and a couple of those are only partially on topic. Out of the twenty-three threads that are not on topic for this board only five are labelled "OT"...
I was wondering why I don't feel compelled to post on this board very much, I think this is part of the answer.

Feel free to post some on-topic threads, bubba.

The on topic threads are redundant.
I try to respond to new stuff, but to have the same "discussions" over and over is boring.
Religion is a pretty big topic.

I always have posted on-topic Erjen, including this thread since it directly addresses this board. But since you just added to the reasons I don't feel like being here I think I will say adieu.

You are one of my fav posters, geode. Stay here even if you post intermittently. I will be posting rather less in the future but I will remain here.

geode
Why kvetch? When I had posted religious topics in the past, (for example), either there was zero response or the thread was derailed by the "Peanut Gallery". I had posted about Buddhist "art" caves in India, the lives of saints, holy days-holidays, Shintoism and now I have a thread about the accurate translation of the Bible. People that speak Hebrew, I would hope could give their opinion.
I threw in the towel on this board.

i find, when dealing with all manner of voodoos, there can be no off-topic subjects. unless i have allowed the faithful to usurp the conversation and digress the subject matter into an oblivion only a magic spirit father could possibly wallow in.
(is that on-topic enough for you)

geode....come back, geode! Look, I didn't post on your cats thread because I couldn't think of anything to add. When the board's poet laureate posts his vile antireligious poison, is that considered on-topic? He doesn't come here to discuss anything. He just comes here to spew his venom, but he gets a pass because he's on-topic, right?

...the anti religious faux poet almost never gets any responses to his gibberish...and that's a good thing because all of his crap is off topic...

Maybe it's because you're still to embarrassed copycat. Did that ever occur to you?

Almost everyone who posts here is an atheist (the few who aren't atheists are Christians, mostly liberal ones); and there's only so much mileage that you can get out of "religion is stupid" before it starts to get boring and repetitive. I try to broaden out the discussion by at least discussing the implications of atheism, but my threads and posts usually get ignored, so my efforts are stalled.

Cinemachinery, cash, vernuf and many other atheists/agnostics or non-religious people have frequently called on fleetsin's distasteful racist posts in the past. There may be only a handful who consider fleetsin's poems as worth anything. Most people don't. I don't understand why you believe fleetsin gets a pass. Geode has never cared to even interact with him.

She posts off-topic, but she has posted plenty of on-topic stuff too for a long time now. I can't believe no one got that. I borrowed it from "Shane." Never seen the film, but the line is somewhat well-known.

Alan Ladd always seemed sad kind of guy in a pleasant way.

I don't believe the real issue is whether discussions are topical.
"Religion, Faith and Spirituality" cover most facets of human life. Even "there's no such thing," the dominant "topic" on this board as far as I can remember, is actually topical in its special way.
I have always had a profound interest in religion and philosophy around the world. I have read a considerable number of books on them and even studied them later in college. My best friends in real life have given me some of those books on various religions. I own one book recommended by a person on this board.
I think the real issue is misunderstanding. As mic said, "Almost everyone who posts here is an atheist (the few who aren't atheists are Christians, mostly liberal ones); and there's only so much mileage that you can get out of "religion is stupid" before it starts to get boring and repetitive."
As it turns out, atheism is often a misunderstanding. People who thought their differences were over the existence of a god actually had differences over the definition of one. To say there's no god because you prayed for a million dollars and didn't get it yet can get boring and repetitive too. That's using your atheist definition of a god to prove there isn't one.
Roughly half of the energy and traffic on the board was the result of that misunderstanding. The other half was the result of misunderstanding modern biology and mindless copying arguments from American Civil War times "science."
Three times in the last month I've driven to a business to find the parking lot empty. Twice it was for remodeling the store. The third time it was an owner going out of business. One expects that prime location property will get a different owner. I think that's like what's happening here, remodeling and change of owners.
No political party, faction or leader is "owning" religion yet. Too many in Washington are still mired in the mistakes prevalent here in the past.
The totally unexpected defeat of Hillary Clinton raised the interests and hopes of quite many people from various walks of life, and various religious, political and other affiliations. While that is getting sorted out the "Closed for Remodeling" sign might be the post of the day.

&Three times in the last month I've driven to a business to find the parking lot empty. Is that why they call you The Nightcrawler? What is the misunderstanding about modern biology? That it actually considers everything is a kind, created 6,000 years ago in a puff of smoke? Or that the modern evolutionary synthesis is overwhelmingly accepted by biologists and related researchers? There is no evidence for the purported deliberate supernatural First Cause outside of personal credulity, perceptual bias, and the claims of scripture, there's no misunderstanding of that. The impression I get is that the support for the current administration is mostly from a similar range of people - and always has been.

One went out of business. I already said that though, didn't I? You recognize no evidence. That is entirely different from there being none. The totally unexpected defeat of Hillary Clinton had a profound effect at first. Many people said Trump is the guy, he has to be the guy, no one else saw this. Many people agreed. They asked, "Now will you finally get on board?" That was just after the election. Over time there have been "disappointments" with Trump. His "base" is dwindling. At the moment it's mostly people who never graduated high school.

Hey Erjen, speaking of off topic I saw a joke posted on Facebook and immediately thought of you.
A man cheats on his girlfriend Lorraine with a woman named Clearly. Lorraine dies suddenly. At the funeral, the man stands up and sings, "I can see Clearly now, Lorraine is gone."
