You realize that porg toys alone will ensure that this movie makes a profit. They don't even have to charge for tickets.

I don't mind the Jawas or Ewoks. BB-8 is kind of in the middle for me. The Gungans would have been fine if they didn't have to talk so primitively. We already had two primitive species with Jawas and Ewoks. It would have been great to see the Gungans be sophisticated, elegant, and proud. It would also completely clash with who Jar Jar is and would explain why he was banished from their underwater habitat. Oh well. It didn't happen. That's a negative way of looking at it. I'm just glad to have more Star Wars movies. At one time, I thought Episodes 1 through 6 was going to be it - at least for my lifetime. Sound is precisely why the Gungans (including Jar Jar) and the Neimoidians were annoying to me in TPM. Visually, they were fine. But the way they all talked was over-the-top caricature. Yes. I actually like the way they look too - especially the Neimoidians who I think were a great new species added to the Star Wars canon. I do find it "interesting" how most of the aliens throughout all the Star Wars films speak English though. It doesn't seem like they would, you know?

6-year-old me friggin' loved the Ewoks as I watched ROTJ in the theaters. Now? I wish maybe something different had happened on Endor. But you know what they say? "If wishes and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas." ROTJ is still my favorite SW movie and I'll praise the movie maker for it regardless of the fact that Ewoks don't jibe with my adult sensibilities. According to one of the official Lucasfilm Star Wars documentaries, originally they were going to use Wookiees for Episode 6. However, the cost of making the costumes for all of the Wookiee characters proved to be too much (also the logistics of finding so many tall people when it was hard enough to just find Peter Mayhew alone). I slightly prefer, "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride."

Everyone in the real world speaks English. The British dominated trade at a point where it was truly global and an English-speaking America then supplanted them as the dominant trade force on the globe. It's quite simple: you want to really compete in global business, you speak English. Same in the SW galaxy. The Core is human-centric. The Republic has always been human-centric. For the most part, it was humans colonizing the galaxy from the Core outward, not the alien-heavy Outer Rim moving inwards. You want to compete in galactic affairs/trade? You speak Basic.

Waaah, cute funny things in Star Wars! Every movie needs to be like Empire! You know, the one with tiny little pig people throwing around 3P0's head... Ugnaughts. They're not exactly "cute" by Star Wars standards. They are small though! I'm not sure if my point really resonate with you.

Shhh...you're supposed to be indignant in your adulthood that SW wants to still appeal to young kids. You're supposed to ignore the fact that most of us commenting on this board were drawn into SW as kids during the OT and that part of the reason we were drawn to it as kids (and are now loyal fans of the franchise) was because of the cute and/or funny characters that were blended into the OT. <waves hand a la Kenobi> "Star Wars doesn't need cute, funny creatures. Star Wars never needed cute/funny creatures."

And that stands has no merit, because those elements have always been part of the franchise. Except apparently Empire, because the examples you cited were neither cute nor funny. Regarding cute/funny, one or two movies being excepted does not change the validity of the statement "....those elements have always been part of the franchise." That' still an accurate statement. They were there in the first movie, thus proving the point "always," and they have been prevalent throughout, thus validating the phrase "been part of the franchise." Regarding Empire, it is not the exception you make it out to be (if there is an exception, it's Rogue One). Tauntauns were meant to be cute. Ugnaughts were meant to provide comic relief. Just because those two traits are not inherent in one singular creature doesn't make Empire an exception to the rule that cute and funny creatures are prevalent in SW.
