Great performance.
And as a sci-fi flick, there's lots of things in it that should have been the template for making a Transformers movie (it has a little Back to the Future thrown in for good measure). It's a bit wonky like all Cannon films tend to be but I'd rather watch it than any modern abominations.

I still feel He man was miscast w Dolph. How do you miscast a big blonde dope whose loan character trait is being a do-gooder? I’m not trying to say that this was some all-time great performance, but how is his performance so off base?

Nowadays Triple H I guess...

Langella was great as Skeletor. So hammy and a prefect fit.

Dolph was the first one cast. The movie was made for him apparently. Langella was cast last.
The first scene they filmed with FL was where he is in the chair over the city and says "leave you on this primitive and tasteless planet."
The only thing with Dolph that might have been a good idea was to dub his voice. Not his fault but he just doesnt have the dramatic oomph for it, especially when he is talking to Langella.

So folks used to incorrectly think that Skeletor was played by the late great Jack Palance. This never occurred to me until I read this. JP talks too slow and with a drawl so no way to confuse him as Skeletor. Now while FL was EXCELLENT in the role (and the PERFECT CHOICE) it does have be wondering what JP would've been like if he were cast instead? I also wonder what someone like either Christopher Lloyd or Timothy Dalton (the Welsh FL) would've been like? IF Frank's son was NOT into 'He-Man and the Masters of the Universe' and thus didn't audition who do you think would've been the best choice?

Mid 80s Skeletor? James Coburn, Richard Lynch, Michael Ironside...?
Wait a second. If there was a desire to have someone who might be in tune with the cartoon version, then Kurtwood Smith would have been ideal. His voice is similar.

Haw the Slayer can perhaps answer this question, since Palance did play a sort of Skeletor / Darth Vader mash-up bad guy in that. Did he overact! The whole movie is comedy gold.

Hawk the Slayer was pretty cool back in its day. Havent seen it in ages--sort of a Magnificent Seven set in Middle Earth.
I used to think the elf with a bow was a vulcan.

I liked this old movie. This would be one I kinda would like to see get rebooted. Just to see how they could re-make this. I know it would never happen, but it would be neat to see.
