One of my fav films as a child, still enjoyable now though I can see why some may not like it, but I love it.

Liked it more than I did the cartoon. As a kid, I loved the cartoon, but it really did not hold up well at all. It's quite bad.

I gave it to seven, because I love it but know that it's not a great piece of film. I think it is very entertaining though. it has a charm similar to Star Wars and Franklin Langella gives a legitimate good performance.

A shame. 3/10.
I even have a small collection of the new Neca 200x series...of course only the bad guys except for Teela, She-Ra and the Sorceress.

9/10. Gets better with time as I notice new things about it. Although cheap by other studio standards its a big budget Cannon and I think it shows a lot of creativity.
Great score, and good cast (though not crazy about Christina Pickles--I remember her from Hill Street Blues or something--I was expecting someone closer to the cartoon in appearance--but as a fairy godmother type counterpart to Skeletor I'd say she is good enough). I wasn't happy with Meg Foster at first either because I had read Sarah Douglas had turned down the role of Evil-Lyn and she looked so much like the cartoon version--but Foster is good--probably did a better job than Douglas would have.
In fact, the big obstacle for me appreciating this was that the cartoon loomed so much in my mind--so much that I didnt notice Langella's performance. But over time, as a stand alone film, I think it really does a good job with the story it has and the limited budget.
Clever use of James Tolkan (as the film borrows some elements from Back to the Future--interesting that they use Family Ties co-star Courteney Cox as the main teen in contrast to Michael J Fox). I think she does the best job of the main cast..other than Frank Langella of course--who has the best heavy makeup performance since Roddy McDowall was leading ape rebellions in Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
In my top five comic book movies--there's a lot of things that any comic book movie should emulate from it.
Poor Saurod. I feel sorry for that lizardman mercenary.

6/10 for me - I was never a MotU fan (I was a G.I. Joe man), but the film is cheesily entertaining and Frank Langella does give a good performance.

How do you think it might have done it they had cast the late wrestler Kerry Von Erich as He-Man? I thought he looked more the part than Dolph Lundgren did.

It would have killed in Dallas and Israel but not drawn a dime anywhere else, plus it would cost a fortune on retakes because no way in hell Kerry would remember his lines or cues, he's well known for his terrible memory not to mention other things.

I even like this movies flaws. Is bringing the storyline to Earth a lame way to save money and a cheesy 80s type of gimmick? Yes. I think we all would have liked to have seen the movie take place on Eternia. But despite that, I actually like the Earth stuff. As a kid, he gave me characters to relate to. Plus, it gave us Lubic! The shoot out in Charlie's music store? Awesome! Gwildor eating Robbie's ribs is comedic gold!
