Hi cjdull76 We've never been formally introduced before because I didn't have time for the other forum I joined but I have heard so much about you from Deb and seen your posts and I wanted to say hi to you and the gang and thank you for being a good friend to Deb.

Yeah. A lot of Independent series were popular here in the 90s and 00s which was when most of them had their highest sales. Image Comics was very popular back then and they came very close to dethroning Marvel and becoming the second biggest selling comic book company in the world at the time and they currently sit at number three according to the official website. It was also the last big ‘hurrah’ for the comic book industry and since then the overall sales of comic books have dropped almost every year. Some of that I believe is contributed to the rise of illegal file sharing like the music industry and looking at how many millions of views I have seen some free web comics get I have absolutely no doubt there are a lot of naughty people reading comic books online instead of buying them but I don’t think comic books will ever get the sales they got before ‘cause some people see them as fossils. DC and Marvel have an advantage over all of the competition being owned by multi-billion dollar companies like Disney and Time Warner though and that is why a lot of their lesser known heroes have got movies while comics under other companies that have been more successful in all time sales haven’t.
I remember in the 90s series like 'Spawn', 'Witchblade', 'Cyberforce', 'Gen 13', 'Youngblood', 'Wildcats' etc were very popular here and you could get Spawn and Witchblade comic books in all newsagencies and every comic book fan knew who they were. We didn’t have the likes of Aquaman, Captain America, Green Arrow, Booster Gold, Thor or Black Widow in our newsagencies and I heard of Captain America but never read any of the comics and I didn't hear about some of the other DC and Marvel characters until I saw them in ‘Smallville’ and the MCU movies. I also never heard of the Green Arrow until 'Smallville' 'cause it wasn't sold here and a lot of people thought he was a Robin Hood ripoff when he turned up on the show but I knew of the Black Canary 'cause Birds of Prey was sold here. We had Superman, Batman, Spider- Man, the Incredible Hulk, Supergirl, the Flash, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman and the Fantastic Four back then but apart from those and Image Comics titles the other popular comic book series I remember being sold here were Red Sonja, the Phantom, Vampirella, Archie, Garfield, Sonic the Hedgehog, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Shi, Lady Death, Evil Ernie, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Disney, the Darkness, Darkchylde, the Simpsons etc. Some of the really violent series with blood, gore and nudity would have to order in and my friends would get series like Faust, Razor, Hellina, Pandora, the Crow, Criminal Macabre, Painkiller Jane, Avengelyne, Aphrodite IX from America. 'Darkchylde' was very popular when it first came out and to quote. www.darkchylde.com/story.htmlAlso despite Razor having a reputation for being one of the most violent comic books ever written and had a lot of blood, gore, sex (lesbian sex) and nudity Razor sold over 6 million worldwide at her peak. deadline.com/2017/05/rob-cohens-razor-ccomic-book-to-movie-number-11-films-lotus-entertainment-1202089753/I loved that series and many other female lead series that were coming out at the time especially the Linda Danvers/Supergirl series. A lot of my friends loved it too and they thought the original Supergirl was lame. I think Linda Danvers is the one new superhero in the past 30 years DC really fucked up with ‘cause her ‘Supergirl’ series was the biggest selling and longest running ‘Supergirl’ series of all time and a lot of comic book fans loved her more than Kara ‘cause she was unique and interesting and had her own powers, costume, characters and villains that were different than Superman and the series was more of a Horror series with Linda Danvers fighting demons, vampires, werewolves, witches, monsters, aliens and angels to “redeem her darkened soul.” I still own every single comic book of the run between 1996-2003 and am getting the graphic novels which are being released for the first time now and even though I read some comic books before that it was that series and ‘Witchblade’ that got me into comic books. I don't think DC or Marvel have come up with another new female superhero anywhere near as good since then. Geoff Johns and Peter David's falling out over Linda which DC originally promised him was going to become Superwoman in her own sequel series was one of the main things that lead to Peter leaving the company. Image Comics is my favourite company too along with Dynamite Entertainment and I read a lot of series by different comic book companies and I am excited about 'Witchblade', 'Hack/Slash' and 'Cyberforce' returning soon and love the new series of 'Fathom' by Blake Northcott and 'The Magdalena' and with Top Cow Productions saying they are looking to relive their glory days I think it will only be a matter of time before other series like the Darkness and Aphrodite IX return next. Looks like things are a lot different in Australia. Here in the UK seeing actual comics in newstands/new agents became rarer and rarer over the years. On the other hand Comic shops were sprouting up everywhere. Maybe Marvel & DC didn't get their shit together when it came to Australia (which is why I was so shocked when in an earlier thread you said your comic book fan friends had never heard of Ant Man) I'll be honest with you - I was mostly aware of titles like Darkchylde, Evangeline, Darkness, Shiri etc from their constant appearance in the bargain bins/over stock. I was selling piles of the stuff which I picked up over they years, on ebay a few years back, including variants. Nailing down comic sales figures is really difficult. Being Wizards hottest comic didn't mean Darkchylde was actually the best selling. And looking at Comichron monthly distribution figures, by month it certainly wasn't outselling most, if not all, the titles it's boasted it did, though it did have healthy distribution sales. But as I said, definitive sales figures are very difficult to pin down. Most are based on distribution figures rather than actual customer sales, and considering how much overstock I used to see from these publishers I think perhaps some titles went to the shops, but not bought by the readers. Still, I will say without Image, Icon, Avatar etc my comic buying would have been seriously reduced over recent years. They are the ones that have kept me rreading Yeah. Things are different here and the late 80s, 90s and early 00s were different times and a lot of people liked darker heroes and comic books and hated light heroes with flamboyant costumes and series like 'Spawn' and 'Witchblade' came at the perfect time and they were different than anything being made back then and Spawn (while not the first but the first really well known one) was a superhero that didn't follow any rules and killed villains and 'Witchblade' took the superhero genre and blended it with Crime, Horror, Sci Fi and Fantasy and from what I read both of those series were originally meant to be under DC and Marvel but the companies didn't want them at the time 'cause they were too dark and violent. Todd McFarlane actually thought Spawn up when he was writing for Batman and some of the Spawn storylines were meant to be Batman storylines but DC thought they were too dark so he tossed them to the side and Marc Silvestri said Sara Pezzini was originally going to be part of the 'X Men Universe.'
I kinda think both of them made the best decisions of their careers leaving DC and Marvel when they did to form Image Comics 'cause neither of those series would have worked under DC or Marvel 'cause they are too different than the type of stuff DC and Marvel publishes and the same goes for all the 'Witchblade' spinoffs like the Darkness, Aphrodite IX, the Magdalena, the Necromancer and the Angelus which would have been out of place and you only need to look at what Marvel did to Angela and DC to Gen 13, WildCats and Danger Girl who should have all stayed with Image Comics and become part of Top Cow productions. Our newsagencies around here have cut back on comic books in the past decade but in the 90s and 00s they were the best places to go to get comic books and we got more DC and Marvel series like Green Arrow, JLA, Power Girl, S.H.I.E.L.D., Thor, Iron Man, Ms Marvel (Brian Reed Run) and Spider Woman more recently along with Hack/Slash which is one of my favourite series by Image Comics. Ant Man we didn't get until the movie and I honestly can't say I heard of him before he was in the movies. I heard of the Atom but only due to his association with other superheroes and didn't know much about him either but they seem very similar.

Well, Vegitto is here for one and I am pretty sure I saw Knightfall on here too but he might have left or changed his profile name and then you have members like PreachCaleb, Feologild Oakes and AnthonyRocks (our old friend Tom) who were on a lot of different sections you and I both wrote on when we were on the old IMDB Boards. It is good to see you here though. It is just a shame we don't have Jay but I hope wherever he is now he is happy.

Ant-Man and Atom have some parallels (Ant Man debuted only a few months after Atom). They can both shrink. Though Atom can do so to sub atomic level. Ant Man not only could shrink, but make himself giant as well, and of course control ants. I would say he generally more well known than Atom. In the comics Ant Man was actually a founding member of The Avengers, and it was he not Tony Stark that created Ultron.

Yes it is a shame Jay is gone for now. Yeah. I really miss him. He was a good friend. Vegitto is known as scabab now. I thought the avatar looked familiar and then I read on one of the posts on here they used to go by the name, Vegitto and knew who it was right away. I am not sure if Knightfall is still here or not but I remember seeing the name and them writing about Marvel movies so I think it was definitely him. I am surprised there are no Olicity fans on here. Where did they all go? The fans went back to tumblr, their safe space ;-)

The fans went back to tumblr, their safe space ;-) Ohhh. Is that where they have gone? You know, I was just telling cdull the other day after all the nasty things they used to write about Katie Cassidy and William they must be livid they are back in the show now. I mean Josue and other Olicity fans swore we would never see Katie Cassidy again after Laurel was killed off and then when she came back as Black Siren they said it was only a one time thing but she just keeps coming back and proving them wrong. Josue last claimed Katie was forcing them to have her back on the show and had threatened to sue but I don't believe that at all and I think they were just looking for excuses. I hated the things they wrote about the actor who played William and could never understand how they could write such awful things about a young boy. That was really extreme and I think he was only 8 and I found that low.
Oohh. Okay. I didn't know he created Ultron or was one of the founding members of the Avengers. I never saw any of his comic books sold here until the movie and I knew more about Atom Ant and Mighty Mouse than the Atom and Ant Man. The Atom become more well known thanks to his appearances in 'Arrow' and 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' where he is played by Brandon Routh much like Green Arrow, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter and Zatanna become more well known thanks to 'Smallville.' I can't remember his name but I seem to recall a similar type of character who appeared in the Flash played by Edge (WWE Wrestler) who had a suit that could make him turn big and I remember reading he was a villain but later become a hero in the comic books too. Did you see him?
