The Broadcaster wanted the games would be my guess as to why this T20 series is happening. As for the India series. I think they will score plenty of first innings runs. Their bowling will be better than England's, but it's hard to see Australia outplaying India over two innings in multiple matches, if at all.

AJ - cricket boards and what were they thinking ?!? moments sadly go hand in hand. CA hasn't put together a decent schedule for well over 20 years now.
As for the upcoming series, unless Australia can consistently find reverse swing, they just won't take 20 wickets to win. I'm leaning towards 2-0 India. Australia will save one game, India will bat themselves out of another.

I can't believe the series starts today.
Bob - I believe India would win 2-1. I won't even put Australia out of contention but 2-1 seems right. Why? Because Australian spinner(s) (particularly Lyon) are decent bowlers as opposed to mediocre spinners of England. In the last series England were in with chance in 3 different tests but their spinners were so bad that the tail rescued India. Lyon is not bad by any measure and could win a match for Australia provided Aus are lucky with toss. Australia +2.5 @ 1.8 odds is a good value for money and I am going to pick that (option available on Bet365).
(And guys, this board has no option of nest mode so long threads can get a bit confusing. I remember Rohan didn't like long threads. If anyone wants to start separate threads for each of the matches then please do so.)

AJ - I just can't see Australia winning a Test. I really can't. The only possibility is that Australia bats first, bats well in both innings and sets India a decent chase and the wicket is so crumbly and dusty that even Kohli and co can't survive on it. If Australia has to bat second, its game over. We just don't have the skills to pull it off (barring a Laxman/Dravid type miracle). I'm saying 2-0 being hopeful. Realistic Bob thinks losing 4-0 without an innings defeat is a pass mark.

Marsh Brothers - urgh. Mitchell Marsh isn't a #6 batsman in Australia, let alone India. His bowling is okay, nothing fancy. His selection ahead of Maxwell only confirms in my opinion that he bowls pies and the selectors don't think he can play a responsible innings. Shaun Marsh got a hundred in the tour game, and in general plays spin much better than Khawaja. He has the talent and the temperament of a classy top order player - he just gets injured far too offten. Describing Okeefe as a spinner is generous PAE.
The pitch looks alright - but all and sundry are calling it 'dry' and Shastri called it the worst 1st Day pitch he's seen. Gavaskar wasn't terribly pleased either - he said it's usually pretty flat, good for batting but also fair for the quicks. Manjrekar and Warne both said however, and I agree so far, that it's not 'dusty' but it is 'crumbling' - and on these pitches accurate 'stump to stump' fast bowling can be just as dangerous with the highly variable bounce.

Not a lot of batting to come after Hanscombe. 2-125 is worth a lot less than face value I reckon. 200-220 all out a distinct possibility still.

Smith threw away all the hard work for a cheap dismissal. Start was pretty good but Australia are losing their way now.

A bit soft from Smith, and Handscomb looked a bit lost. Not expecting much from here. 250 looks a long way off, and even that might be a touch short. Australia have to bowl exceedingly well to get anything out of this game.

What did I say? 225 looking best case from here. 8-205. No surprise with that 4 out, all out batting line up the Aussies went with.

Pace doing the damage. Could be Starc time when India bat if we're looking for positives.

Excellent rearguard action by Aussie lower order. This could be very valuable given India-England was largely determined by Indian lower order getting runs. Aus very much in the match on this pitch.

Australia is back in it thanks to some good hitting by Starc. The problem Australia has is that India bats to No.9 with Jayant. They just won't get the freebie wickets in the middle order that Australia gifted them. Well played by Renshaw too. He's the only one who got a ball with his name on it really. It was a cracker from Ashwin. The more I watch Jadeja bowl, the more intrigued in am by him. He seems to get so many wickets with dead straight flat balls at 90km/h. They aren't flippers or sliders, they are almost bowled seam up. It's incredible.

Why are Border and Clarke being so harsh on Renshaw? He had a problem, dealt with it, came back and scored well. Don't see the issue at all.
How do I post a profile pic on this website?

Even if Starc and no.11 don't manage to add many more, Aus will still be in the game. The pacers could create problems on this pitch. Let's hope for a thriller here. hamsterman11 Go to profile, then on profile page you will see 'edit profile' option on top right side of the screen. Then you have choice of using default avatar or upload an image. Upload an image and save and you are done.

It seems that Rahul has no idea about how to play Hazlewood.
