Bugger, SA batting first. So far, when they've batted first they've won easy, when NZ has batted first the matches have been very close.

Guptill almost made an unbeaten double hundred (180*) to level the series 2-2. Boy, when he get gets going he does makes them pretty quickly. Congrats hamstermann for the victory and best of luck to both sides for decider on 4th March.

Yes what a knock from Guppy. Superb stuff, glad I was wrong. They've handled Tahir very well other than that first T20, which is pretty pleasing. AB has probably kept them in it in yesterdays game and in the first odi which they just got home. Looking forward to the game on Saturday where I'll get to watch most of it and the second India v aus test where we will see if the Steve's can keep it going.

(smile) Ever the optimist, I predict South Africa will win the 2019 World Cup Aj.

Good Golly Miss Molly, but Martin Guptill was on fire yesterday - one helluva knock. Nice to see Ross Taylor in such good form of late too. I think we missed a trick by not leaving out one of the quicks and playing Shamsi instead. The deciding game is going to be a humdinger, but David Miller is overdue and if he, AB and Quinnie are all firing on Saturday morning (SA time) South Africa will win it.

Nice to see someone from SA on this board, Cody. I do see England, SA and Aus as the three main favs of 2019 WC given that Asian countries struggle outside of Asia and New Zealand is not as strong as it was in 2015. And looking forward to a close game on Saturday!

Eden Park is one of those places where it should be 350 v 350 every game yet somehow it never quite works out that way.

A bit of an anti-climax at Auckland as 5th match is looking one-sided at the moment.
I have not been able to watch the Test match but from cricinfo I gather that Aus have been bowling well and India have done well to avoid not losing more than 1 wicket till now. 52/1
Edit : Good effort by Aus to get rid of 2 before lunch. They have maintained the pressure all through. Things could get ugly for India if they lose more without any partnership.

Excellent bowling from Australia. I think that Australia are in a pretty dominant position. I don't think their batsmen might have as much problems as Indians had in the first innings. probably same like in the last test.

Another outstanding day of Test Cricket by Australia. India all out 189, Australia 0/40 in reply. Nathan Lyon the star with 8/50. India's batting again looked fragile - I just don't know what they are doing, some of the dismissals are almost comical from such strong players of spin bowling. That being said, runs on the board count, and India aren't out of it with Ashwin and Jadeja on this deck. Australia will have a chase in 4th innings, and anything over 100 will be tough.

Some outside chance but it is looking more a case of India getting innings defeated in this match. I don't see India scoring anything more than 120 in second innings. So only distant chance India have is if they can get Australia out without conceding more than 25 runs lead.
It's looking exactly opposite of how it looked in England series. When Indian batsmen were playing, it looked as if each bowl was turning and bouncing and exploding but Aussies made it look easy.

Proof that you should never write your spinners off, both Lyon and O'Keefe are getting better and better. This is a pretty stunning turn of events these last two tests. Lyon looked near unplayable at times yesterday.
Disappointing game in the NZ/SA finale yesterday. NZ just aren't the kind of side who will try and tough it out for the final 10 overs anymore, they just keep going and it cost them yesterday as it did in the world cup final. Credit to the Saffas for some excellent bowling though and some great fielding as well. Rabada is a star.
NZ desperately need to blood one of the young wicket keepers now. Ronchi can't bat, Waiting can't bat ODIs, and Latham can't bat and keep at the same time. Might as well give a young guy a chance.

That's pretty dire AJ. It's not the easiest pitch to score runs on, but 120 is a very low score!
Hamsterman - I agree 100%. Not the smartest of tactics. I can't believe they are picking Ronchi. RSA are starting to look like the 80's Windies - a never ending procession of quicks. Morris is the latest model.

Hats off to Australia for the application they should and grit and resistance they showed with bat. This is perhaps best Australia has played in years.

This game is on a knife edge IMHO. Australia will need another 50 runs at least to have any chance. If they lose their last 4 wickets for only 20 or so, they will have too many to chase. Any 100 run chase will be exceedingly difficult.
In other news, England easily beat WI in an ODI....

This is the pivotal session. India are 0/38, trail by 49 with 10 wickets in hand. A good session here with the bat, and I think they can win the game. 100 more runs and lose only 3-4 wickets and they are massive favourites for mine.

Lyon is looking like as if he can get a wicket every ball. India will need a lead of 150 to make a fight and I don't see them getting that much of a lead with Lyon looking that good. Probably luck and bad fielding from Australia are the only things that can help India have fighting chance. Score is 50-1 as I type this. Rahul is looking good though.

150 target wouldn't be that surprising tbh. I'd expect some better application from India and at least 200. Whether a Kohli or Rahane can dig in and get them to 250-300. If they get 300 they deserve to win. 250 and we're in for a tight one.

India 120/4 now. For some reason Jadeja came in at 5 and made 2. Bizarre tactics. Kohli got a 50/50 one against him. Happens sometimes. Nothing wrong with Llongs decision, nor anything the 3rd umpire could do. There was absolutely no way you could say it was bat first.
Lead of 33
