There are more wickets down than people at the ground watching the match. What a sad state of affairs in 2001, when LARA scored that 153 against the aussies, the ground in west indies was full. im sure back then, they thought it would go on forever. but it didnt. things can change so fast. TRUMP can become president. the mighty television can be replaced by small screens. windies grounds can be totally empty.

Mike Whitney "all being captain means is that you've got a letter c next to your name on the team sheet, and it often doedn't stand for captain." Whitney was a good bowler but he was oft injured. Most of my memories of him were in ODI cricket. I remember he took 3 catches in in a World Series final against India after S.Waugh and Dean Jones had dropped sitters. The last catch was a beauty, ran about 20 metres and showed the ball to the hill for a half lap before throwing it in the sky. Also remember a great spell he bowled against the Windies, also at the SCG, knocked over Lara with a beauty defending 101. I think it was at Perth where he took 11 or 12 against India. For mine, Merv was a reliable workhorse and well worth a spot in the team, but in no way did he carry Billy. From early 91 to mid 93 McDermott carried the whole bowling unit. The big missed opportunity of that era was Bruce Reid. Superb bowler in full flight, but couldn't stay on the park. Biggest waste of talent in that era, by some margin, was Chris Matthews. On Bucknor: can't think of a bigger beneficiary of the neutral umpires rule. Rudy maybe. He was shite too. He had a few good games, Whit. But was probably a bit short of pace and a bit short of movement to be a really genuine test bowler. Anyone who thinks Hughes carried McDermott is either biased or blind. Hughes was exactly that, wholehearted workhorse, who got as many wickets with his mouth as anything. McDermott was a class bowler, who was always on that 4th stump line with a bit of movement away. The only criticism of him (and I’ve heard it from many different sources) was that he was a very, very poor traveller. Hated going to even NZ or England. Bruce Reid. Never has Billy Birmingham cooked anyone as good as poor old Bruce Reid. Absolutely spot on - more nuts and bolts than a hardware store. “Oh no, the sticky tape has come away ! Bruce Reid has broken in half !” Classic. Chris Matthews - 100% agree. The epitome of a “heavy ball” bowler. I remember Geoff Lawson saying about him that a grade coach in Tasmania tried to ‘straighten’ him up. Just didn’t work. The bloke couldn’t figure out his own mechanics. He was a poor version of Jeff Thompson’s self described “Shimmy up and go wham”..... Rudy was alright. Bucknor was shit. As was Bowden. Venkat went downhill very fast, but at least he knew it and retired. Neutral umpires suck though. England and Australia clearly produce the best umps, followed by India and South Africa. Why we have to put up with these clowns from Pakistan and the West Indies I don’t know.

Shame they didn’t show Archer’s ball that hit Labuschange full in the nuts in the Channel 5 highlights. Sounded like a doozey on the radio.

India closed on 203 for 6 - Rahane made 81. This could be a good match if Windies get the Indians out for 250 and take on India's own pace battery instead of farting about!

irritating 30 run partnership between JADEJA and ISHANT from a windies point of view. that too, after getting danger man PANT early.

5 for ISHANT, playing his 92nd test. if he brings his overall careeer average to the 27-31 range, it would be a bit of an achievement. it used to be in the 36-38 range for a very long time. frankly, he is very lucky because there was little competition for the fast bowlers slot until 6 years ago and ISHANT has upped his game in this period. especially in the last 3 years.
since 2017, he has 54 wickets in 14 tests at an average of 21.3 and strike rate of 50. a great record when guys like BUMRAH and SHAMI have been terrific.
ISHANT played his first test in 2007. ZAHEER, BALAJI, IRFAN PATHAN, RP SINGH, SREESANTH and MUNAF started before him and were his peers. but all of them declined. guys like ABHIMANYU MITHUN, PRAVEEN KUMAR, UMESH (still in the team), VARUN ARON, BHUVI, SHAMI, PANKAJ SINGH and BUMRAH started after ISHANT. but ISHANT has held on to his place. maybe there is some favoritism involved. but he has maintained his fitness, is still only 30 years old and on current form, might actually complete 100 tests. an achievement for a fast bowler in this day and age. much of his career has been mediocre. but hope he forms a good combination with SHAMI, BUMRAH and BHUVI.

Just how fit Ishant Sharma looks at 30. His body looks like that of a 22 year old debutant. I think Sharma had great potential and it looked for years that he would turn out better than he was but that never happened. But he has been pretty decent in the last few years.

Third consecutive failure for Williamson in Sri Lanka. Smith has made Kohli, root and Williamson look really bad.

Unlike King Kane to go this long without a decent score. Is Tom Latham the most underrated and underestimated batsman in world cricket ? Has scored 9 tons, on the way to 10.
