I watched this movie a few days ago. It's got a terrible reputation and always has but I've never thought it was too bad.
It had a good cast actually for this kind of movie. Jon Bought was pretty bad in it but I'd say he was the worst part of the movie.
I thought it was kinda thrilling, an Anaconda makes for a good movie monster. The CGI wasn't too bad for 1997 though some of the practical effects for the snake weren't too bad. A few memorable deaths in there.
Yeah I don't think it deserves the bad rep it got.
The sequel I saw once ages ago,I might need to rewatched it but I thought that was better but the IMDB score was even worse.

Never understood the hatred either. Its a fun and silly creature-feature horror-thriller/adventure with some nice locations, decent cast, and I recently re-watched it for the first time since 2001 and thought that it has hold up pretty well. Never been a big fan of JLO and her brand, but as just Jennifer Lopez she was pretty damn tolerable, specially in Money Train (1995) and Selena (1997) but I have always prefered Kari Wuhrer. She was stunning in Anaconda and Thinner (1996) as the hot but crazy gypsy chick. Anyway, this is a pretty good popcorn 7/10 film, entertaining and silly but never once gets boring. Also another highlight is seeing Jon Voight and his sleazy grin throughout the film as he comes off as a great baddie, even better than giant snake that sounds like a pig.

Something of an updating of "The Creature From the Black Lagoon." Good b-movie.

I liked it and the sequel tho I can't remember much about the second one other than it was more of an adventure flick. I didn't see the straight to video sequels tho xD

I just watched the sequel yesterday. It was also just alright, it wasn't better like I'd originally believed but I'd say it was about the same.
I don't think either deserves below a 5.0 on IMDB though.

It's a gloriously goofy creature feature that I legitimately enjoy. Sequels, not so much...

An okay time-waster. Gotta love Jon Voight's snake performance.

It was alright. Saw the sequel, can't remember if it was OK too or just really bad.

A very enjoyable average movie.
CGI was........meh. The acting wasn't that bad.
The cast was okay.
But Jon Voight makes it 6/10. His wink makes it 7/10.

It’s alright. I’m sure the effects would seem dated now tho. I haven’t seen it in forever.

An okay time-waster. Gotta love Jon Voight's snake performance. Well, his "snake performance" did produce Angelina Jolie, so, yeah. I guess I enjoyed that, too.

It's good, but am I alone in preferring the sequel, Anacondas: The Hunt For the Blood Orchid?
