OK, an odd question, but perhaps it will spark some discussion. I never got into Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it was on television--for a variety of reasons, but one of them was that it didn't seem "my sort of thing." I do like the vampire myth and learning about "the supernatural," but it simply didn't seem like the sort of program I'd like: too focused on teenage, soap-operatic drama for my tastes. Several friends recommended that I try it out, and I finally read a bit about it and found the "unaired pilot" on YouTube about a year ago. I watched it and enjoyed it, and thought the show might be better than I'd expected. Then I found the whole series on Netflix and watched the aired pilot and the first few episodes--and was terribly bored. I skipped around a bit but just didn't find anything that particularly interested me, and I was assured that later seasons grew even more focused on personal dramas. Besides the first few episodes of the first season, I also saw "Superstar" (I think that's what it was called--the one where everyone goes to an alternate universe where they worship one kid) and "Hush." "Hush" was the only "real episode" I completely enjoyed, and that mostly for those terribly creepy villains. This may seem utter blasphemy, but I actually enjoyed the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie better than any of the TV episodes ("Hush" notwithstanding); it was goofy and silly, and certainly no masterpiece, but I thought it was decently paced and amusing. So, anyway: any recommendations for a non-fan like me? I know there are many Buffy fans, and I don't mean to offend anyone, but I could never really see what the fuss was all about. Any suggestions? Thanks!

That's all right if you enjoyed the movie more than the show. I don't hate the movie, and actually think it's campy fun. The show just didn't speak to you. No harm done.
But when you say "suggestions," what exactly do you mean? As in which episodes to watch?
If that's the case, these are the episodes I can narrow it down to.
From season 1: Angel Prophecy Girl
From season 2: School Hard Lie to Me What's My Line Pt 1 & 2 Surprise Innocence Passion Becoming Pt 1 & 2
I'd say these episodes probably encompass the story arc that many fans would say was the high point of the series.
Give these a shot. If you end up enjoying them, I do suggest rewatching any episodes you might've missed as the series is full of in-jokes and call backs, and even some foreshadowing.
If you don't enjoy them, then the series might not be for you. Which is cool. A lot of people hail The Sopranos as one of the greatest shows ever, but I've never been able to get into it.
Either way, we'd like to hear your feedback at some point.

Thank you, PreachCaleb, and, yes, I was looking for episodes that may give me an idea of what people see in the show. Many thanks, and I'll let you know.

Hi Nalkarj !
No offense taken, lol.
I agree with what Caleb suggested. Those episodes of Seasons 1 and 2 are the ones to watch and a good representation of why the series is so loved by the fans.
I do understand about you not liking teenage/high school drama. So, like Caleb said, try to get through those episodes, and if you like the show then it will eventually mature in the later seasons. We would definitely like to know your thoughts after you watch these episodes. I promise if you don't like them I won't be mean or anything, I will understand, lol. It's just nice to know different people's opinions.
Might I make a suggestion? If the teenage aspect of Buffy bugs you, then maybe you would enjoy it's spin off show, Angel, more? It is more "adult" or "mature" for a lack of a better word, yet still has similar aspects, not to mention characters, of Buffy without much of the teenage drama. BUT, before you get into it, I would still highly recommend watching all of the Buffy episodes Caleb mentioned because they set up and explain Angel the series, and you would miss a large aspect of both the show and the character if you jumped straight into the show. Now, I actually got into Angel the series before I got into Buffy and was not too lost and still fell in love with Angel, but after I went back and watched Buffy, it filled in a lot of stuff and made the series even better. I appreciated and loved it even more and on a higher level.
Try those Buffy episodes out first, and then I'm sure Caleb and I (and anyone else) can recommend more episodes if you want.
Good luck!
