IMO you're never too old to play Mario games. I still play them but not
as much as I would like to.

I don't think you're ever too old to play any video games. I'm 30 years old and I buy Nintendo hand held systems for the soul purpose of playing Pokemon games. I don't give a damn if somebody thinks I'm too old to play with them. I still find them to be quite fun. Sun wasn't the best of the series but it was still fun.
Eventually people do grow out of stuff but by no means should anyone feel embarrassed by the fact that they still play games. Hell I hope when I'm in a retirement home I'm whooping other old people's asses in Smash Bros. or Mario Kart.

For me, NES/SNES gems are akin to chess, Scrabble, backgammon, etc... great gaming is great gaming, regardless of medium or platform.
Sure there are some unmentionables, like Shaq Fu or 80% of sports titles just trying to make a quick buck... I opt for the gems & not purely for nostalgia, simply because they're still f'n awesome.
Yes, SMW or Super Metroid are coined 'dated'... so what. Is Super Metroid less of a game because it maxed out on early 90's tech & production quality?? Heck nos.

There is no such thing as being too 'old' to play mario games, or any other games for that matter. If the person playing video games is having fun, all the best! Video games knows no age limit.
