I'm biased.
Ike is talking to a paratrooper from the 101st Airborne Division.

Maybe not the most iconic, but my favorite. Two French civilians laying flowers over a dead American in Normandy. They probably never knew the guy but you can see the real grief of their faces.

The Yalta Conference is suggestive ofthe fact that only 4 people (three of them in this photo) had the lives of millions of people in their hands. They failed. Victims of the Holocaust. Why we fought. Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The most enduring legacy of WW2.

The best photo to me was the kiss on VJ day, because of what it stood for.

The best photo to me was the kiss on VJ day, because of what it stood for. For Australians it was the dancing man in Sydney Dancing man

The Nazi officer forcing up the head of a frightened old Jewish woman. Can't find it though.

The photo of Omaha beach haunts me every time i see it after reading Ambrose's book, my second choice would be raising the flag at Iwo Jima and the third would be the execution of the Australian POW (another haunting image )

For Americans it will be the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima.
What about for Brits, Canadians, and ANZACs?
