...when it comes to you yourself personally killing an animal (including insects)?

To protect another animal or human, Catman would kill.
To end an animal's suffering, Catman would kill.

I've always wanted to shoot rabbits with a brown bess musket. Rabbits are an invasive species where I live anyway.
Yet strangely, I cannot imagine myself killing a bee - I like bees.

My justifications for personally killing a critter: 1. Putting a seriously injured animal out of its misery. 2. Eliminating a dangerous or unhealthy bug--ticks, mosquitoes, flies, fleas, and anything that may attempt to hide out in the kitchen--ants, etc. Otherwise, I generally won't kill a bug and I usually make an attempt to guide any wayward bugs that get trapped in the house outside again. I let the gigantic centipedes that patrol the bathroom at night crawl in peace, and I'm even beginning to find the stinkbugs that hide out in the drapes during the winter somewhat amusing.

I agree about killing an injured animal. And also about insect pests especially ticks and mosquitoes. I won't kill a Ladybug or a Praying Mantis, but I would be a liar if I said I never killed a spider.

I have a list of insects I won't kill (ladybug, lightening bug/firefly, praying mantis, etc.) and I don't kill spiders under a certain size since they aren't going to hurt me or my dog, but I won't hesitate to kill a tick, mosquetto, or anything that is more of a parasite or will bite. As for animals, I've only ever killed one and that was to put the poor thing out of it's misery. The back half of the animal had been crushed under a car tire, it was a super-hot day, and this poor animal was stuck to the pavement. So I killed it. Other than that, I can't imagine doing so.

...when it comes to you yourself personally killing an animal (including insects)? IMPO - Mostly as a practice I don't deliberately kill animals or insects ( if they accidentally get stuck in my home I will set them free back into the great outdoors ) . I personally believe them to be living beings with souls just like humans have ( and deserve kindness and respect just like people do as well ) . I also personally believe killing any living being on this earth is wrong but sometimes if it's an unavoidable situation like in one example self defense and to me it's especially as a very last resort of course ( thankfully I have not had to make that choice and I pray I never will either ) . Thanks so much Ass_E9 for your subject post .

I personally go out of my way to avoid hurting any animal.
People, not so much.

If it's a threat to myself or others. Humans or animals.

Inside my house no insects or rodents allowed. I'll terminate with extreme prejudice. The occasional spider in a corner minding its own business is okay. They catch flying pests. I generally don't bother creatures outside except I will not allow wasp or rodent nests around my house and mailbox.

I run a smallholding, so I slaughter animals all of the time. But I wouldn't go hounding (google translate, so I don't know if it is correct, that is just cruel to the animals.

I don't kill bees for obvious reasons. But I've also found killing wasps is usually not necessary. The ones around here at least are very non-aggressive. I even let them build nests on the house to a certain point. Will only spray them if they get too big, mostly for the safety of neighborhood kids.
